  • Actively participates in and/or acts as lead human resources professional on business unit or system-wide human resources committees. 
  • Acts as a human resources point of contact for regular and emergency decision making 
  • Acts as the liaison for business unit compensation, talent acquisition, learning and development and benefits customer needs. Participates in the development and implementation of UPMC and/or business unit learning and development initiatives.
  • Conducts investigatory interviews and assists with legal response, where needed, related to employee relations issues and provides relevant facts to recommend solutions. Maintains well organized and accessible history on significant employee relations issues for future needs.
  • In conjunction with UPMC legal services, attend and represents UPMC outside hearings and meetings such as unemployment compensation, union negotiations, mediations, etc.
  • In collaboration with HR Retention Specialist, collaborates on business unit workforce retention initiatives by use of human resources metrics and strategies such as exit interview data, turnover analysis, absence management statistics or focused interviews. Identifies trends and collaborates with leadership for improvement.
  • Provides human resources consulting services for designated departments by provide expert recommendations on employee relations, policy and procedure, workplace retention and engagement and cultural improvements, including a culture of inclusion. Develops leaders in human resources decision making capabilities.
  • In collaboration with HR Retention Specialist provides business unit on-boarding program guidance and expertise to ensure consistent messaging for new hires resulting in increased retention and employee satisfaction.


  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business or related field required
  • Five years of human resources experience including two years of experience in employee relations required 
  • Understanding of federal, state and local legislation as it applies to human resources and the employment process required 
  • Experience with full cycle human resources preferred (i.e. recruitment, on-boarding, learning and development, compensation, etc.) PHR certification/SHRM-CP certification preferred.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • PHR or SPHR preferred
  • Older Adult Protective Services Act
