The Community Relations Manager develops, maintains, and monitors key external relationships for UPMC Health Plan which support membership growth and retention, brand awareness and equity, and foster strategic partnerships to support system and health plan goals.

  • Identifies other UPMC resource, both community and provider partners who can support UPMC Health Plan's goals for creating brand awareness and membership growth in a designated territory.
  • Complete all assignments in a timely, thorough, and appropriate manner.
  • Create a yearly Community Relations Plan that guides the Department in fulfilling its goals. Revise and update the plan as needed.
  • Demonstrate initiative by taking a proactive approach to problem-solving and adjusting to change, leading the community relations effort.
  • Develop goals and strategies to identify and interpret public attitudes and recommend methods to increase public awareness.
  • Ensure that the projects, programs, and activities of the Department are consistent with the Health Plan's mission.
  • Establish a working relationship with governmental, industrial, and civic professionals and community leaders to promote the Health Plan's mission.
  • Examine alternative methods of providing community relations services in order to reduce departmental operating costs.
  • Interact with community leaders, physicians, managers, and employees to accomplish projects, as well as to enhance the Health Plan's image.
  • Manage, coordinate, develop, and measure/monitor special events that promote the Health Plan as a healthy community resource, including community outreach and programs that serve to enhance the health of the residents of Pennsylvania.
  • Oversee the informational activities and programs that increase public understanding and community support of the Health Plan and Health Plan products and programs.
  • Provide health education materials, activities, and information on UPMC Community HealthChoices and UPMC for Life Dual.
  • Assists in the development of training materials related to UPMC Community HealthChoices.
  • Possess the ability to write grammatically correct, easy-to-read, informative, and persuasive presentation under deadline.
  • Remain current with national and local community relations trends and their applications to the institution; serving as a well-informed adviser to Senior Management
  • Creates or develops outcome measures for community engagement activities


  • Bachelors Degree required. Masters Degree in business, health, or related profession preferred.
  • Sufficient previous community relations experience, preferably in a health care setting.
  • Demonstrated success in managing projects in matrix environment. Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain successful relationships with internal departments.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and work within a team environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Ability to work with and take direction from Senior Management.
  • Desire to continue upward progression within organization.

Salary Range: $25.86 to $43.57
