University of Pittsburgh Physicians seeks a Clinical Project Director to support our Heart and Vascular Institute's clinical project initiatives. The UPMC Heart and Vascular Institute is one of the world’s premier centers for comprehensive cardiovascular care.

Through collaboration and teamwork, we are developing revolutionary medical devices and new models for treatment that improve the lives of people facing even the most complex heart and vascular conditions.

This position will work standard daylight hours, Monday through Friday.

The Clinical Project Director will serve as the project manager for the Heart and Vascular Institute's clinical initiatives and programs. In this role, you will provide administrative oversight, clinical guidance and support to multifaceted cardiac treatments and related information technology programs consisting of a set of related sub-projects. You will serve as a contact and liaison with external partners and agencies. Additionally, you will represent UPMC at various community and/or business meetings, promoting existing and new programs. 

You will work collaboratively with partners and development of strategic direction of the overall program and manage the development of funding proposals, contracts, marketing, quality initiatives and patient programs.

Responsibilities:
  • Acts as a national liaison along with research staff as well as academic institutional networking.
  • Ask as a liaison in the HVI cardiology and CT surgery.
  • Assist in developing measures that will evaluate the success of the project.
  • Assist in the assessment of project success and help to develop revised processes or policies in a timely manner to ensure success of the project.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of training programs, tools, and other documents to ensure all applicable parties are well informed and have received effective training on the project goals, individual roles and responsibilities, work flows and other related activities.
  • Assist in the development of quality audit tools, measures, and reports to ensure work products and productivity meet established standards and meet compliance.
  • Assist in the development of tools and reports that will provide management with the information on progress of the initiatives.
  • Assist the Medical Director and Medical Leadership in the development of the project strategy.
  • Collaborate with department staff and staff from other departments/facilities to evaluate work flows and develop written accountabilities, roles, responsibilities, work flows and related tools.
  • Coordinate scheduling of work team meetings, prepared documents, maintain minutes, update project status.
  • Coordinate the multidisciplinary specialists, both internal and external, that will be identified as part of the patient management team. This includes working as part of the clinical/patient management team.
  • Coordinate the planning, design, and implementation phases of HVI initiatives including clinical trials, and new treatments/procedures. Responsible for all personnel recruited to assist the project in a condition to include, hiring, supervision, annual performance evaluations, and determinations if required.
  • Coordination of all related CME activity.
  • Develop methods to assist in tracking the status of projects.
  • Follow up with appropriate staff to ensure progress continues.
  • Identify barriers and work with department management staff to resolve issues.
  • Identify linkages among departments, other facilities, and external groups to maximize opportunities to be creative and efficient, which will help the department in reaching established goals.
  • Keep all team members, key departments, and management informed of project status.
  • Marketing and outreach responsibilities to include initiation and maintenance of the website, creation and circulation of marketing materials, newsletters, and patient documentation.
  • Monitor timely completion of tasks, remind responsible party of deliverables, collaborate with others to resolve issues, and keep project on task.
  • Observe department functions, document processes and provide recommendations to Medical Director for improvement.
  • Responsible for producing all related reports.
  • Work with other HVI department managers to achieve efficiencies across integration of projects.

Qualifications

  • Masters degree in business, nursing, healthcare management or related field is required.
  • Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP) or Physician Assistant (PA) license required
  • 7 years progressively increasing operational experience in a professional environment required
  • Cardiac patient management experience preferred.
  • Strong process management, problem solving, organizational, and communication skills (oral and written).
  • Demonstrated initiatives and ability to work independently.
  • Ability to manage multiple priority standard lines concurrently.
  • The ability to perform planning for large initiatives/projects, managing all tasks required to be departmental in business needs within budget and targeted deadlines.
  • Able to function and a complex environment
  • Must have strong computer skills including use of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance
  • Physician Assistant (PA) or Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP) license required
