The University of Pittsburgh Physicians and the Center for Community Hospitalists Medicine is hiring a Physician Assistant or Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner to help support the Hospitalist Department for the UPMC Jameson, Grove City, and Horizon locations. The APP will provide coverage Monday thru Sunday, 7 days on 7 days off working 5 10 hour shifts and 2 12 hour shifts. This position will work night shifts or offer flexibility of half nights/half days with the willingness to work between all site locations. No on-call will be required.
The successful candidate will be placed according to years and months of experience for employment purposes.
Responsibilities:
- Administers medications and injections in compliance with state law and clinic guidelines.
- Collaborates with physicians in managing acute and long-term medical needs of patients. Provides monitoring and continuity of care between physician visits. Maintains and reviews patient records, charts, and other pertinent information. Triages patient telephone calls and provides consultation. May make rounds at nursing homes and hospitals.
- Complies with all UPMC Health System and USO policies and procedures.
- Complies with requirements of appropriate regulatory agencies (i.e. OSHA, CLIA, PA Department of Health)
- Instructs patient/family regarding medications and treatments. Educates patients regarding health and illness prevention. Recommends community resources to meet patient and family needs.
- Maintains strict confidentiality related to medical records and other data.
- Performs complete physical exams, obtains complete medical history and records findings. Orders appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures. Interprets and integrates data to determine preliminary diagnosis and therapeutic plan.
The individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately to the patients served as specified below. They must also demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide the care needs as described in the department policy and procedures.
CRNP:
- The successful completion of an approved nurse practitioner program is required
- ACNP Certification is required
- BSN, MSN is preferred
- Professional nursing experience and/or nurse practitioner experience is preferred
PA:
- A graduate of a physician assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the physician assistant (ARC-PA) is required
- BS or MS candidate is preferred
- Experience as a physician assistant and/or experience in a clinical setting is preferred
ED, Urgent Care, or Family Medicine experience is highly preferred.
This position is dependent upon successful attainment and maintenance of hospital privileges, if applicable to the Business Unit practice.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:CRNP:
- current state RN license and CRNP certification are required
- National certification, eligible for licensure by Pennsylvania board of nursing, eligible for certification as a CRNP by Pennsylvania state board of nursing
- ACNP Certification is required
- current CPR certification is required
- Act 33 Clearance will be required
- Act 73 Clearance will be required
PA:
- A current state PA license, certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) is required
- A current CPR certification is required
- Act 33 Clearance will be required
- Act 73 Clearance will be required
