This position would be scheduled Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. No weekend or holiday responsibilities!

In this role you would provide for accurately performing specimen analysis, instrument operation-maintenance-troubleshooting, QC, QA in a physician office laboratory. Assist physician and nursing staff with patient flow, patient care, and procedures as necessary. Follow all established Laboratory P&P.

Responsibilities:
  • Assay and analyze quality control specimens to ensure acceptable patient results.
  • Charge accurately the encounter forms for laboratory work performed using ICD-9 coding knowledge.
  • Demonstrate appropriate behavior toward patients, visitors, staff, peers, and physicians.
  • Identify troubleshooting procedures and call technical service.
  • Implement and comply with safety and quality assurance standards. 
  • Comply with regulatory agency standards. 
  • Adhere to OSHA Standards, laboratory safety compliance and site safety officer.
  • Maintain a clean working environment and restock laboratory as necessary. 
  • Assist Laboratory Manager in implementing Laboratory P&P, OSHA regulations, record keeping and inventory control.
  • Maintain an adequate supply of reagents, consumables, and general laboratory supplies.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all information related to patients and medical staff.
  • Perform collection and specimen analysis of all Hematology-Chemistry specimens according to laboratory P&P.
  • Perform microscopic examination of urinary sediment and other tests as ordered.
  • Perform proficiency testing according to CLIA 88 guidelines.
  • Plot QC results. Follow defined protocol for investigating out of control runs and implement necessary remedial action. 
  • Record daily laboratory functions on appropriate logs.
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly instrument maintenance. 
  • Perform calibrations according to manufacturer.
  • Prepare reagents, stains, and other chemical solutions following manufacturer guidelines
  • Prepare smears and perform peripheral differentials.
  • Process specimens for send-out testing.
  • Recognize and verify all critical and abnormal results with appropriate documentation and follow up.
  • Record and track patient results in an efficient accurate manner.
  • Report abnormal values according to established protocols. 
  • Notify patient of laboratory results per physician's request.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in a laboratory science or Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) from an accredited institution, 
  • OR Certification from an accredited Clinical Laboratory Assistant (CLA) program, 
  • OR Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university with a major in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science AND ASCP preferred,  
  • OR Equivalent education and experience as defined by CLIA 88 for individuals performing high complexity testing. 
  • Prefer minimum 1year experience in a hospital laboratory. 
  • Need to know Medical terminology and laboratory information system.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • MLT ASCP registration preferred.
  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance

Salary Range: $14.58 to $22.35
