Job Description

Job Title: Student Nurse Internship – Home Health Nursing & Senior Communities
Job ID: 1800004E
Status: Full-Time
Regular/Temporary: Temporary
Shift: Rotating
Location: , Pittsburgh PA

Are you a current nursing student and interested in seeing what being a nurse is really like? We are seeking nursing students interested for both the Home Health and Senior Community areas for Summer 2018. The SNI for the Home Health area will provide patient care directly in the patient's home and have an opportunity to see a variety of cases. The SNI for the Senior Communities area will have an opportunity for a rewarding experience providing high quality care to the residents at our Seneca Place location.

UPMC’s Student Nurse Internship (SNI) program is a 10-week paid summer internship; this year the program begins in mid-May and ends on July 27. SNIs have an opportunity to work directly with a trained preceptor… one on one! In addition to providing direct patient care, supplementary educational sessions provide the opportunity for the student nurse intern to build relationships and learn about their profession. SNIs can work up to 40 hours per week and follow the schedule of their preceptor.

Note that attendance to the orientation of the program is mandatory; this year’s orientation will be held May 23-24. Additionally, hired SNIs agree to complete an essay about their experience, a post-program evaluation survey, and make every effort to attend mid-summer and end of summer events. For internal candidates, please note that this is a temporary position and transferring into a temporary position may affect your current employment benefits.

  • Preference will be given to those students wanting to pursue a nursing career at UPMC upon graduation.
  • A cumulative GPA of at least a 3.00 is strongly preferred; if selected for an interview, an official academic transcript will be required.

- Active CPR certification throughout the entire summer is required; SNIs will be required to bring proof of certification to orientation.
- Additional clearances may be required based location and specialty; specific instructions will be provided prior to the program start.
