Description

We are looking to hire two Research Associates for the “Mood & Brain Circuitry in Adolescence” (MBA) study.

This position is within Dr Ladouceur’s Cognitive-Affective Neuroscience and Development (CAND) laboratory. The research program of the CAND lab focuses on the development of brain systems supporting emotion processing and regulation in typically developing children and adolescents as well as those at risk for or diagnosed with anxiety or mood disorders.

The Research Associate will be responsible for administering the research protocol, which includes conducting psychiatric semi-structured interviews with parents and adolescents, administering self-report questionnaires and computer tasks, administering computer tasks during a fMRI scan, instructing participants on collection of actigraphy data. The person will responsible for overseeing data collection and data entry and may be requested to complete the visit at the participants’ home, if necessary.

The ideal candidate will be trained in administering the KSADS semi-structured interview and have some knowledge about depression and/or mania in adolescence as well as being very organized and detail-oriented, able to work well with children and adolescents, and a good communicator.

This position is grant funded.

Purpose:
Assist in the execution of research protocols and services.

Responsibilities:
  • Administer research protocol including computer tasks, fMRI scan, actigraphy/mood ratings, and self-report measures.
  • Assist Investigators and Post Docs with data analysis for papers/presentations by performing some aspects as needed.
  • Assist with recruitment, scheduling appointments, obtaining written consent forms, collecting data by conducting phone or face to face interviews for research project(s).
  • Complete the formal diagnostic and assessment interviews required at all phases of the study including initial evaluation of child/adolescent subject and parent and follow-up assessments of all subjects (in the lab or travel at participant's home).
  • Identify at-risk children, youth and adults who display symptoms of mental health disorders and report such cases to Drs. Ladouceur, Diler, or project coordinator.
  • Maintain accurate documentation.
  • Participate in participant recruitment (posting ads in schools/hospitals/stores, newspapers, completing mailings).
  • Provide administrative support for the projects - e.g. retrieving/entering articles into reference system, copying, filing, etc.
  • Provide support to data management staff - e.g., storing of data, data entry, data cleaning and data integrity checks.
  • Schedule participants' assessments at appropriate time intervals.
  • Screen participants (child/parent) using phone and in-person measures.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree required preferably in psychology or related field. 
  • One year of experience working in mental health environment (clinical or research) preferred. 
  • Experience working with adolescents is strongly preferred.
  • Experience administering and scoring standard research assessments (e.g., K-SADS-PL, ALIFE, SCID, 
  • CGI, FH-RDC, etc.) is strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in basic computer software packages, including MS Word and email is required.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and written/oral communication skills required.
  • Excellent organizational skills, critical thinking/analytical skills, and the ability to make independent decisions is preferred.
  • Ability to maintain flexible schedule and access to transportation to travel to participants’ home is required.

  • Act 33 Child Clearance with Renewal
  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance with Renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance
