Job Purpose
 
Under the general direction of the President, UPMC International and the University of Pittsburgh Senior Director of International Programs, the “Vice President/Country Manager, China” is responsible for planning and executing international development opportunities though the generation of new China engagements, through the monitoring of deliverables for operational agreements, and through the ongoing management of client relationships.  The VP is responsible for developing a comprehensive Business Development (BD) program to maximize revenues and increase gross profit margins.  Further, the VP will communicate market data learned through the BD process to UPMC International and University of Pittsburgh Sr. Management, and work in conjunction with staff in China and Pittsburgh, to complete the due diligence, business plan and engagement implementation processes.
 
Responsibilities – UPMC International
  • Responsible for strategic BD involving engagement decisions that will be made at the board of director level.  Lead in the navigation of the BD process.
  • Accountable for developing leads and executing engagements throughout China.  Investigates potential business in developing areas, as needed.
  • Participates in overall strategic planning, due diligence processes and business plan development.
  • Responsible for periodically monitoring on-going engagement deliverables and support client relationship management.
  • Attends conferences and symposiums for professional organizations that are relevant to the healthcare and educational institution product lines.
  • Leads in the proposal development process in the preparation of engagement proposals.
  • Works in conjunction with marketing and communication departments in the creation of marketing materials.
  • Participates in the training and development of additional business development-related staff.
  • Oversee existing project operations to assure project deliverables are met.
  • Manage the budget for the existing operational projects.
  • Supervise the operational staff either directly or through a matrix relationship.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with existing clients.
  • Explore opportunities to extend the current operational agreements.
  • Explore opportunities to expand current operational activities to a broader scope of work.
Responsibilities – University of Pittsburgh
  • Responsible for being the face of Pitt in China.  Interface effectively with existing and potential client institutions, partners, government, etc.
  • Oversee development, implementation and maintenance of an online system that supports Pitt activities in China. 
  • Establish a more regular presence for Pitt in China by providing necessary support for activities such as conferences, alumni events, etc.
  • Evaluate and make recommendations on educational and entrepreneurial BD opportunities in China.
  • General networking: actualize connections in in China, organize and then concentrate them for the University of Pittsburgh.
  • Execute: Carry out to sustain.
  • Connect to and build relationships with Pitt Alumni, students and the educational institution networks, Partners, government, private sector, etc.
  • Garden: Engage in exponential growth.
  • Development of structure to support requests from prospective students.
  • Identification of marketing venues to promote the Pitt brand.
  • Explore and advance opportunities for bringing funding to support research and commercialization at the University of Pittsburgh.
  • Provide regular updates on market trends and opportunities in China.
  • Identification and development of Pitt-UPMC synergies and co-branding.
  • Provide assistance with development of and logistics for senior-level travel.
  • Provide advice to University on business decisions.
 
 

Qualifications

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Healthcare, Management or a closely related field is required.  A Master’s Degree is preferred.
  • Five to seven years of Business Development experience required.  Ten plus years of experience is preferred.
  • Healthcare, Business Development and/or Sales experience required.
  • Must be fluent in English and Mandarin.
  • Must have prior experience living and working in China.
  • Must be willing and able to live in China for a period of two years.
  • Hospital or Healthcare Operations experience required.

Salary Range: $75.30 to $123.34
