Description

The Patient Safety and Regulatory Specialist for Corporate Quality will be responsible for supporting the Director of Patient Safety and Crisis Intervention in implementing patient safety initiatives, assist local hospital Patient Safety Officers in reporting, attend hospital root cause analysis as needed, and work with leaders to reinforce culture of safety initiatives. The specialist will serve as a resource for the Director Systemwide Regulatory and Accreditation by participating in ongoing assessments of compliance with Pennsylvania Department of Health, CMS, and Joint Commission regulations. Actively engage in system policy review related to safety and regulatory issues.


Responsibilities:
  • Assist in review of health system policies
  • Assist with review of proposed and new regulations and standards and initiates actions to ensure compliance.
  • Build trust with system leaders
  • Collaboration with IP coordinators and physician leadership around infection prevention critical issues
  • Communicates significant events through established mechanisms in a timely manner.
  • Conduct Department of Health reviews
  • Conduct Joint Commission reviews
  • Coordination of system wide infection prevention improvement initiatives related to system goals and presenting concerns Leadership re IP in emergency response situations
  • Educate managerial, medical, clinical staff, and ancillary staff to regulations and standards to develop an informed and effective health care team.
  • Establish good relationships
  • Expert in infection data analysis/trends and proactive intervention
  • Keep Directors informed
  • Matrix to all ICP coordinators and their BU leadership
  • Participate in system Quality, Safety and Regulatory teams.
  • Pursue certificate in Patient Safety and Regulatory field
  • Review actual and potential patient safety occurrences with physicians, department heads and managers, identifying trends, making recommendations for action, and assuring compliance with the program.
  • Serve as a resource to patient safety officers and regulatory experts on regulations
  • Serve as a role model to foster a patient safety culture in the organization.
  • Support to local BU operations as the need presents
  • Travel to sites to work with others

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Nursing required
  • Masters degree preferred 
  • Minimum 5 years of clinical experience in an acute care setting 
  • Previous regulatory and/or patient safety experience strongly preferred
  • Willingness to travel to other UPMC facilities to work with others
  • Demonstrate skills to work with a variety of Microsoft office software systems. 
  • Ability to interact with senior leaders, physicians, and other health care providers positively
  • Facilitate and manage system wide meetings, including maintaining action plans Ability to work independently within a changing environment

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Certifications preferred: Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS) Certified Joint Commission Professional (CJCP)
  • Act 33 Child Clearance with Renewal
  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance with Renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance
  • Registered Nurse
