Description

Purpose:
The Print and Graphics Coordinator manages all pre-print and print production for communications projects for UPMC Health Plan. Works closely with department management and outside vendors to maintain print quality at the lowest possible price, and ensure quality work in a timely manner. Conceptualizes, designs, and produces print projects and other graphic materials of all levels needed for the marketing communications, provider education and communications, employee communications, and corporate communications efforts of UPMC Health Plan.

Responsibilities:
  • Conceive creative visual ideas and solutions; design graphic materials such as brochures, newsletters, advertisements, and other related documents and collateral, with proper attention to function, concept, visual appearance and corporate identity requirements.
  • Demonstrate service-oriented behavior in interactions with clients and co-workers.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance with all vendor contracts.
  • Ensure that UPMC Health Plan is preparing files for print, and print projects, that meet vendor and customer needs, result in the best turnaround time, and allow for the most efficient use of Health Plan expenditures.
  • Establish and maintain a print coding system to ensure that regulatory needs are met, and all internal and external customers can track print jobs.
  • Handle multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritizes projects appropriately.
  • Help to prepare production schedules; produce material within established project schedules and budgets.
  • Maintain UPMC Health Plan corporate graphic standards on all appropriate materials; provide consultation to various UPMC Health Plan staff, clients, and vendors regarding implementation of these standards; assist with revision and documentation of standards as needed.
  • Maintain accurate library of Health Plan print materials.
  • Maintain close working relationships with all outside vendors.
  • Prepare printing specifications and properly communicates specifications to production managers, UPMC Health System purchasing representative, vendors, and editorial staff as needed.
  • Produce clean, accurate artwork for all projects (computer files, film, paper, etc.).
  • Work closely with department management to provide financial oversight for a multi-million dollar printing budget.
  • Work closely with finance department to track expenditures. trends, and costs for all print and other outside vendors that serve the graphics area of the Communications Department.
  • Work closely with other staff and production managers, department managers, and directors to maximize opportunities to reduce print cost by suggesting alternative print arrangements, alternative communications ideas, and ways to reduce printing cost.
  • Work with miscellaneous external creative service vendors, as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in graphic design or related field, with at least three years of professional experience in the field, or an associates degree with at least five years of experience. 
  • Must have strong graphic design, creative, computer graphic, financial management (including expert in Excel spreadsheet); and ability to negotiate with printers. 
  • Prefer newspaper graphic arts, corporate communications, or health care design experience. 
  • Previous experience in managing print projects or working for a commercial print operation preferred. 
  • Due to multi-colored complexity of graphic material produced and the need of graphic designer to correct color in various software programs, full vision capabilities are required (cannot be color blind).

Salary Range: $22.60 to $39.11
