Are you passionate about helping others? If so, becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) could be for you! Our skilled nursing facilities provide a variety of programs to meet the needs of people who no longer require care in a hospital, but need 24-hour skilled nursing care and other personal healthcare services. 

 

UPMC Susquehanna is now accepting applications for our CNA Training Class beginning June 4, 2018.  Seats are limited!

 

Course Details: 

  • Learn the skills you need to take the CNA certification exam 
  • Program includes classroom and clinical training plus CPR certification
  • Classroom portion will be held at Muncy Valley Long Term Care, Monday through Friday for 3 weeks, during the daylight shift. (Accommodations for those traveling from out of the area may be provided)
  • Classes and exam fees are paid for by UPMC 
  • Perfect attendance and punctuality for the CNA class is required

 

Graduates will continue training/working as a CNA Trainee at UPMC Susquehanna in a full-time or part-time position depending on the department’s availability and need. Day, evening and night shifts are currently available for CNA staff that complete training classes. Shifts can vary depending on the department's needs, and rotating weekends are typically required.

 

Trainees will transition to regular CNA titles upon successful completion of earning their certification.

You must be 18 years of age to apply and have earned your high school diploma or equivalent.  

 

CNA Trainee Purpose:
The CNA Trainee under the direct supervision of the Nursing Assistant Instructor performs assigned tasks to meet the basic resident care needs.  In addition, the CNA Trainee performs non-resident related activities to ensure the effective operations of the nursing unit.

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Promptly reporting to class as assigned 
  • Provide resident care under direct supervision of the Nursing Assistant Instructor
  • Obtain assignment from Nursing Assistant Instructor 
  • Make rounds to all residents on assignment to make sure the resident has no immediate requests 
  • Meet resident needs as identified during rounds 
  • Consistently work cooperatively and pleasantly with all staff, residents, family members, and Nursing Assistant Instructor 
  • Follow Resident Rights policies at all times 
  • CNA trainee must maintain confidentiality of information at all times 
  • Breaks and lunches are scheduled as per the Nursing Assistant Instructor 
  • The Nursing Assistant Instructor is to make any adjustments to the schedule. 
  • All students are expected to follow all UPMC policies and procedures. 
  • Completion of class to prepare for PA nursing assistant certification exam.

Qualifications

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED required

 

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Act 33 Child Clearance w Renewal
  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance w Renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance
  • Older Adult Protective Svs Act
