The Geriatric Neuropsychology Research Program. The Geriatric Neuropsychology Research Program (GNRP), located within the Department of Psychiatry and the Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic, is directed by Meryl A. Butters, Ph.D. The GNRP is located in a suite within WPIC. The research specialists are well-trained neuropsychological examiners. The GNRP maintains a full library of neuropsychological tasks including traditional paper and pencil and newer computerized tests. The GNRP typically serves from 10-20 funded research studies, including those on which Dr. Butters serves as PI and all studies affiliated with the Advanced Center for Interventions and Services Research for Late Life Depression Prevention (ACISR/LLDP), as well as ancillary studies being conducted throughout the UPMC. The examiners administer neuropsychological assessments to geriatric participants in a number of settings, including the GNRP, hospitals in the UPMC system, PCP offices, participants’ homes, and institutions such as nursing homes. Staff of the GNRP regularly train neuropsychological examiners who work on studies both within the University of Pittsburgh and elsewhere. GNRP staff members monitor both their own performance and that of other examiners working in separate studies through regular inter-rater reliability assessment. 

Our ideal candidate possess a high level of interpersonal skills and must be able to work with a wide range of individuals including elderly individuals with depression and/or dementia. Previous and recent experience conducting neuropsychological assessments with cognitively impaired adults is preferred. Recent experience working in geriatric research is required. Actual work hours will be determined by the need of the study, and these accommodations will be discussed between the employee and the Program Director and the Program Coordinator.

Purpose:
Independently execute job functions for research protocol(s). Collect and gather research data for research project.

Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with senior research personnel regarding recruitment, data collection, outcomes of interviews, reports according to the needs of the study.
  • Independently execute job functions for research protocol(s) including recruitment, scheduling appointments, obtaining written consent forms, collecting data by conducting phone or face to face interviews for research project(s).

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree required, preferably in psychology, neuroscience, sociology or related research field.  
  • Minimum of one year of work experience in a research project and/or related clinical setting is required. 
  • Familiarity with comptuers and common software packages required. 
  • Working knowledge of research methodology strongly preferred.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance
  • Comprehensive Crisis Management
  • Valid Pennsylvania Driver's License
