UPMC Chautauqua is hiring a Full Time Licensed Practical Nurse to support the Emergency Department at our Jamestown, New York location. Under direction of a registered nurse, our LPN's provide routine patient care to ensure the highest quality patient experience. This position will be working variable shifts to help with coverage in the department as necessary. 


UPMC Chautauqua WCA, a 317-licensed bed hospital, was chartered in 1885 and is Southwestern New York’s largest non- for- profit healthcare provider, offering an extensive range of inpatient and outpatient acute rehabilitation services.  The hospital is accredited by The Joint Commission, The American Association of Blood Banks, American Academy of Sleep Medicine, American College of Radiology, Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Echocardiography Laboratories (ICAEL), CEO Roundtable on Cancer Gold Standard Employer for 2015, and approved by the American College of Surgeons (ACoS) Commission on Cancer (CoC).  


This position will work mainly night shift including weekend and holiday requirements.

  • Assist the RN and interdisciplinary team in evaluating, planning, and implementing plans of care. 

  • Provide appropriate, direct patient care.  Give injections, take vital signs, perform basic diagnostic tests, observe patients, dress wounds and administer medication.  Comply with established medication use policies.  

  • Observe and record patient's symptoms, condition, and/or reactions to medications and treatments and report results to the RN in charge. 

  • Communicate effectively with patients and families about hospital stay and home care concerns.  Instruct and demonstrate care.  Discuss any patient or family concerns with RN in charge so that issue can be appropriately addressed. 

  • Perform assigned work in a timely and productive manner. 

  • Strictly adhere to all policies and practices relative to patient care and hospital-related information. 

  • Comply with safety policies and procedures including standard precautions.


  • Completion of a Practical Nursing program.

  • Excellent communication skills necessary to effectively interact with patients, family members, visitors and staff members.

  • Basic computer skills necessary to input patient care orders and medical record documentation.

  • Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation OR Basic Life Support
