Job Summary:

Do you have a strong background in patient registration and customer service? UPMC may have the job for you! University of Pittsburgh Physicians is hiring a temporary Patient Services Representative for the Neuro Consultants department at UPMC Northwest. This position will work Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The temporary assignment is expected to last for 30 days or longer if needed. 

A Patient Services Representative is responsible for welcoming patients upon arrival, promoting the usage of new and emerging consumer-friendly technologies, educating patients on their copayments and financial obligations and collecting payments when applicable, scheduling subsequent appointments within the continuum of care, connecting patients to financial advocacy resources when appropriate, updating patient's demographics and insurance coverage information, and promoting an overall culture of service excellence. Patient Services Representative display strong customer service skills that ensure that patients and family members have the desired UPMC Experience at UPMC physician practices, hospitals, and outpatient surgery departments.

  • Greets and assists visitors, physicians and other staff members
  • Maintain confidentiality and follow all HIPAA and departmental guidelines
  • Maintains accurate communication including, but not limited to, promptly answering telephones, activating the paging system, facilitating timely faxing, and distributing patient and unit mail
  • Maintains waiting room and office supplies.
  • May room patients and prepare charts/medical records for review
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Schedule appointments, patient registration and place follow-up calls to physicians and/or patients
  • Verifies insurance for accuracy and completeness and gets appropriate forms completed and signed by patients.
  • Verify necessary information and records in the electronic medical record and computerized scheduling system.


  • High School education or GED preferred  
  • Completion of technical, trade or any other medical educational training program and/or six-months of medical office experience is preferred 
  • Previous experience with EPIC and/or EpiCare 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft suite products such as Word, Outlook and Excel 
  • General knowledge and experience with office equipment such as copiers, multi-line phone systems, fax machines and paging systems 
  • Typing skills and working knowledge of word processing, electronic mail/calendar, spreadsheet, presentation, and database software 
  • Familiarity with medical terminology

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance or Act 34 Criminal Clearance with Renewa
