Description

UPMC is currently looking for security/law enforcement professionals to help support our mission of Quality & Safety for patients, visitors, and fellow employees.  UPMC Passavant's Safety and Security Department is hiring a Security Officer to fill various shifts.

This Security officer will be Responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, staff and all UPMC owned and adjacent properties; enforcing UPMC rules and regulations to both employees and the public; patrolling UPMC hospitals, buildings, grounds and associated areas to prevent, investigate, and document arson, theft and vandalism and any other criminal activity; monitoring security, fire, and environmental alarms; responding to and resolving problems, disputes and unusual circumstances as necessary. The will also provide customer service to patients, families, visitors and staff to maintain a safe and secure environment.

Responsibilities:
  • Assists with traffic control as necessary.
  • Completion of reports and incident documentation as necessary.
  • Control evidence, valuables, lost/found as necessary.
  • Handles disruptive visitors, patients, and staff by verbal communication, physical intervention and/or arrests as necessary.
  • Inspects incoming / outgoing parcels as necessary to prevent theft of hospital property. Checks permission slips to remove discarded material from UPMC property.
  • Investigates incidents of unusual circumstances reported by UPMC staff, visitors, physicians and patients.
  • Maintain security and safety of UPMC buildings, persons, property, and assets.
  • Operate UPMC vehicles in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Pennsylvania Vehicle Code and maintain any issued equipment.
  • Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.
  • Prepare and complete all mandatory training programs as per departmental guidelines.
  • Provides customer service to patients, families, visitors and staff and maintains a safe and secure environment through protection and enforcement of local laws, UPMC policies, procedures, rules and regulations.

  • Serves as a member of the fire response team and responds to various security-related alarms. Responds to emergency calls for assistance, and disasters.

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent required
  • Associate degree in Criminal Justice preferred
  • One year experience in safety, security, law enforcement or related field preferred
  • Excellent customer service skills required to handle all levels of personnel, patients, and visitors
  • High level of integrity required for handling sensitive/confidential UPMC information.
  • Ability to defuse and handle distraught or hostile person(s) in a professional manner required
  • Good oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Good interpersonal skills; able to deal with stress and potentially dangerous conflict situations.
  • All applicants will be subject to a thorough background and criminal record check
  • Must be available for all shifts
  • Guards/Officers are required to wear a bullet proof vest Psychological fitness required to deal with stress and potentially dangerous conflict situations
  • Physical fitness requirements to deal with typical physical demands that require full body motion and physical strength and stamina sufficient to chase, apprehend and subdue criminal suspects, and respond to crisis interventions and medical emergencies.
  • Must have good hand/eye coordination and able to pass an eye and hearing test with appropriate correction.

    Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Act 235 with Firearms or Act 235 without Firearms
  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance
  • Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation
  • Driver's License
  • UPMC Physical Fitness Standard
