UPMC Horizon is currently hiring a full-time Quality Nurse Coordinator to help support our Patient Safety and Regulatory team at both our Greenville, PA and Shenango Valley (Farrell, PA ) campuses. The primary office for this position will be at Greenville, with some travel to the Shenango Valley campus required. This position will require you to work primarily daylight shifts with a 7am start; however, some additional off-shifts may be required when regulatory agencies are on-site.

As a Quality Nurse Coordinator, you will be reviewing and analyzing data to improve quality and patient safety throughout the facility. You will also complete chart reviews and audits as well as attend meetings with the different groups and committees throughout the hospital. Additionally, you will be responsible for ensuring that UPMC Horizon is current with regulatory standards.

Other responsibilities include supporting multidisciplinary quality improvement functions organizationally to achieve the highest quality and best possible outcomes for the patient and to support the various hospital functions related to development, implementation and evaluation of performance improvement initiatives.


Responsibilities:
  • Applies best practice knowledge to improvement efforts Practices solid verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrates critical thinking in the analysis of clinical, social, safety, psychological and spiritual issues for the patient care. Incorporates national professional organization as well as business unit and health system's goals to improve patient safety, quality and satisfaction of the patient experience in work. Disseminates new knowledge and innovations through presentations, posters, and publications.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and ability to identify opportunities for success with regulatory requirements Partners with hospital leaders to implement change Demonstrates project management skills Serves as a leader in clinical nursing practice, identifying patient and staff focused opportunities for improvement and leading the change process. Identifies, educates and supports the psychological and learning needs of staff during change and transition. Practices participatory leadership and is an active member of shared leadership at the unit, facility or system level. Participates with the peer review process.
  • Interacts with variety of staff Develops and maintains productive working relationships internally and externally by building teams and relationships through mentoring and modeling uplifting and positive communication. Coaches colleagues on cultural diversity and addresses workplace horizontal violence and impairment. Demonstrates accountability to self and others for safe work hours, time management and healthy lifestyles.
  • Monitor and evaluation trends, and follow through on performance improvement and/or regulatory compliance related action plans and activities addressing areas of non-compliance. Promote and particpatein educational activities related to new standards and staff education related to the same. Effectively communicate improvements that are made via verbal or written communication of clinical design activity or opportunities for process or practice improvement to work teams, staff, managers and administrators throughout the organization. Ensure application of a tracking method to monitor progress towards goals and identifies the need for redesign of practice improvements targeted by the clinical design initiative. Collect, analyze, and present accurate, timely data to display the results of process improvement efforts. Leads improvement utilizing various approaches such as TPS/Lean/PDSA or other methods as appropriate. Review reported events and incidences to identify opportunities to improve patient safety and implement/revised processes and/or procedures accordingly.
  • Reviews and extracts patient information from the medical record Demonstrates innovation and leads change through process flow/analysis Demonstrates expertise in PI/CQI and with methods such as lean, Toyota and or six sigma Interprets and analyzes data and identifies areas for improvement Leads core measure and other processes teams Uses measurement and analytics skills to identify areas for improvement Exhibits knowledge of the fiscal implications of quality outcomes Improves processes
  • Utilizes appropriate computer systems to obtain data, enter and develop reporting tools Demonstrates interest in the development of others and positively impacts the lives of patients/families, peers, and members of the healthcare team through mentoring, education, and knowledge sharing. Mentors and role models quest for continuous learning through formal education and the development of others. Seeks opportunities to share expertise with other members of the healthcare team

Qualifications

BS/BSN degree required at time of hire/transfer

Masters degree preferred.

Minimum 5 years of nursing experience required

Must be able to demonstrate skills to understand and interpret data

Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families.

Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment.

Exemplary critical thinking, analytical and problem solving abilities required as related to various aspects of patient care.

Critical thinking skills necessary to exercise and to lead others. Mobility and visual manual dexterity.

Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance
  • Registered Nurse
  • UPMC approved national certification preferred.
