UPMC Presbyterian is currently hiring a Weekend Professional Staff Nurse to support the 7G General Medicine unit. While a weekend position may appeal to many caregivers, it is an ideal fit for individuals who are seeking greater work-life balance, whether it applies to continuing education, child care and family needs, or other professional pursuits.


Considered full-time status at 24 hours per week, Weekend RNs receive full-time benefits as well as a substantial differential in their hourly rate. As a Weekend RN, you will fulfill two 12-hour shifts per week—between the hours of 7:00 PM on Friday and 7:00 AM on Monday. 

A role that requires independent judgment, fluent communication, and candid partnership, the Professional Staff Nurse establishes and maintains proactive relationships with physicians, other health care providers, patients, and patients’ families in order to achieve desired patient outcomes throughout the continuum of care. A Registered Nurse and a member of the care delivery team, you will set the standards for the level and quality of nursing care, as well as possess authority and accountability for its provision. You will acquire and apply a broad range of nursing skills, develop expertise in progressive care and telemetry, and exemplify a commitment to the community and to the nursing profession.

Qualifications

Minimum 1 year experience.

BSN preferred.

 

Must be able to demonstrate:

  • Knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately to the ages of the patients served by his/her assigned unit as specified below. Knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span.

  • Ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide the care needs as described in the department policy and procedures. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families. 

  • Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment. 

  • Good clinical judgment with critical thinking, analytical, and problem solving abilities required as related to various aspects of patient care. 

  • Critical thinking skills necessary to exercise and to lead others in application of the nursing process. 

  • Mobility and visual manual dexterity. 

  • Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance

  • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire

  • Current Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse.

  • UPMC approved national certification preferred
