UPMC Chautauqua is looking for a Phlebotomist! This is a Part-Time position with up to 20 hours per week. Shifts are Monday- Friday including every other weekend and rotating holidays.
Previous Phlebotomy experience is preferred, but recent Phlebotomy graduates/externs are welcome to apply! This position will be responsible for inpatient and ER patient blood draws and processing.
Purpose: This position has the responsibility and accountability for accurately performing phlebotomy and specimen collection of inpatients and/or outpatients. Samples collected by the phlebotomist are used for laboratory test procedures that are essential in the diagnosis
And treatment of patients. The phlebotomist will also perform computer, processing and clerical functions essential to laboratory operations. The phlebotomist works in conjunction with and under the supervision of the medical technologists at times.
Responsibilities:
Calls clients to confirm handwritten orders, obtains accurate billing information, dx codes, UPIN information, etc. when needed
Collects specimens in a timely manner and according to established procedures.
Communicates appropriately with clients, patients, and coworkers. Remains polite and courteous at all times. Communicates all unresolved problems immediately to supervisor.
Completes all required documentation and statistical logs as required.
Follows positive patient ID policy to accurately collect and label specimens.
Keeps work area clean and neat. This includes waste disposal, stocking of supplies, management of lab coat cleaning.
Participates on teams and special projects when asked. Performs other duties as assigned.
Performs basic clerical duties, i.e. filing, faxing, preparing mail, data entry, etc.
Processes and/or packages specimens according to testing specifications.
Reads, understands and complies with organizational and departmental policies, procedures and protocols.

Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent
Certification from an accredited Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant program is preferred.
Minimum 6 months experience is preferred.
Medical terminology knowledge and laboratory information system experience is preferred.
Must have the ability to establish work priorities and handle several procedures simultaneously.
Must interact with other departments.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: Phlebotomy Technician (PBT(ASCP)) or equivalent certification preferred.
