University of Pittsburgh Physicians is hiring Full-Time Physician Assistants (PA) or Neonatal Nurse Practitioners (NNP) to help support the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for our unique Advanced Practice Provider Postgraduate Residency in Neonatal Critical Care and Newborn Medicine for our Hamot location. The residents will spend time at NICU sites including UPMC Hamot, Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC and Magee Women’s Hospital of UPMC, with most clinical hours at UPMC Hamot. This position will work day or night shifts, as needed for the program. 
 
As a medical learner, the Resident will follow work hour requirements set forth by the academic program as determined by the program director and the medical director within the work hour guidelines as set forth by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. The Resident will participate in an educational program provided by the UPMC business unit, and is expected to satisfy the academic requirement of the program, as determined by the Program Director and the Medical Director.  The successful candidates will support on-call as needed by the program.
The Advanced Practice Provider Resident Postgraduate will begin October 2018.  The Program will conclude in one year with increments of 4-week rotations through multiple NICU sites to facilitate an in depth world-class educational experience. These rotation lengths may be longer based on Resident health, academic necessity or program discretion.
 
The Staff Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is a Physician Assistant /Neonatal Nurse Practitioners and a member of the care delivery team.  The Staff APP is responsible to set the standards for the level and quality of care.  The Staff APP has responsibility, authority and accountability for the provision of care through supervision by and collaboration with a physician.  The Staff APP manages and provides patient care activities for a group of patients and their families through the application of independent judgment, communication and collaboration with all team members.  The role of the Staff APP encompasses the beginnings of leadership, partnership, collaboration and supervision.  The Staff APP establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with physicians, other health care providers, patients and their families, to achieve desired patient outcomes throughout the continuum of care. The Staff APP begins to demonstrate a commitment to the community and to their healthcare profession.  Upon completion of the Residency Program, successful graduates will be considered for Neonatal Advanced Practice Provider level positions throughout UPMC.
 
The successful candidate will be placed according to years and months of experience for employment purposes.

This position has a set rate of $35.02/hour.

 

 

Responsibilities
- Performs complete physical examinations and obtains complete medical history and records findings. Orders appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures.  Interprets and integrates data to determine preliminary diagnosis and therapeutic plan for critically ill or injured patients.
- Under the direction and in consultation/collaboration with the attending physician or designee, diagnoses medical conditions and plans interventions, documents and communicates information to the health care team, and documents patient care services with a daily dictated or electronically generated note that conforms to documentation guidelines.
- Performs selected invasive patient care procedures based on the patients’ needs as determined collaboratively by the physician supervisor and the Allied Health Credentialing Committee of the medical staff.  Documents procedures, patient response/s and results in the patient record.
- Administers medications and injections in compliance with state law and hospital guidelines.
- Provides instructions, information and support to the patient/family regarding medications and treatments.
- Consults with attending physician or designee upon the identification of significant unexpected changes in patient status.
- Provides continuity of patient care in collaboration with other health care professionals as appropriate.
- Participates in an educational program provided by the UPMC business unit, and is expected to satisfy the academic requirement of the program, as determined by the Program Director and the Medical Director.
- As a graduate medical learner, follow work hour requirements set forth by the academic program as determined by the program director and the Medical Director within the work hour guidelines as set forth by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education.

Qualifications

- A graduate of a Physician Assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) is required or Completion of an Accredited Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Program for Neonatal Nurse Practitioners (NNP)
- BS or MS Candidate is preferred for PA, MS required for NNP
- Eligible for clinical privileges as a member of the Affiliate Staff by the Medical Staff Office
- Eligible for Pennsylvania Prescriptive Authority and federal DEA Controlled Substance Registration
- Must be recommended for appointment by the Program Director and satisfy academic programmatic requirements in order to maintain employment
- A current state PA license, certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) is required or a current state RN, CRNP, Neonatal Nurse Practitioner license and National Certification is required for Neonatal Nurse Practitioners
- A current CPR certification is required
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support is required
- Act 33, 34, and 73 required
Licensure/Certifications
-A current state PA license and certified by the National Commission on Certification is required for Physician Assistants
- A current state RN, CRNP, Neonatal Nurse Practitioner license and National Certification is required for Neonatal Nurse Practitioners
-NCC
-A current CPR certification is required
- Act 33 Clearance will be required
- Act 73 Clearance will be required
