Purpose:
The paramedical aesthetician performs direct patient care, specific to the health, quality and appearance of the skin. This service is provides under the supervision of a physician, such as a plastic surgeon or dermatologist, who treats cosmetic surgery patients. Treatment may be isolate or coordinate with anticipated cosmetic surgery, such as a chemical peel, dermabrasion, facelift, etc. He/she contributes to the experience of patients seeking cosmetic improvement by providing professional, friendly, and quality services. Supervisory and teaching skills are expected. This position requires a motivated individual to function independently and utilize good judgment. Patient confidentiality must be maintained at all times. The paramedical aesthetician must be willing to participate in establishing standards and procedures for related activities in the clinical office.

Travel to various as required by department Wexford and Shadyside.

Responsibilities:

  • Apply post-surgical camouflage makeup- performs facials, circulatory massage therapy and other cosmetology services for which he/she is trained and experienced.
  • Assist in the smooth and uninterrupted provision of general clinical support in the doctor's office to include, but is not limited to, registering patients, scheduling appointments, answering phones, providing information to patients and providing assistance to the doctors in the general care of the patients.
  • Conduct educational seminars for public forums, patients and medical staff.
  • Consult clients on makeup and provides for the sale of high quality cosmetics with the patient's medically supervised program.
  • Evaluate patient for need of glycolic washes and associated skin care treatments.
  • Greet patients and directs them to the skin care area.
  • Perform glycolic washed and other skin care treatments, which include but are not limited to the topical application of Retain-A, hydroquinone and steroid preparations.
  • Periodically evaluates program effectiveness, product sales, and profits.
  • Provide any clinical assistance in the general dermatology clinical area when deemed appropriate and required by the Director, the Clinical Operations Manager, her designee or a physician.
  • Provide verbal and written information adequate for properly documenting informed consent for recommended procedures.
  • Set up and maintains a designed area for skin care within the doctor's office or at a remote location as designed by the doctor.
  • Supervise assistants in the provision and distribution of skin care related products and services.

Qualifications

  • High school graduate.
  • Licensed to perform cosmetology in Pennsylvania Esthetician 
  • Ten (10) years of experience in the retail delivery of cosmetic makeovers or related field or five (5) years experience in cosmetics with three (3) years of teaching at a beauty academy.
  • Appropriate individual training in aesthetic skin care. Experience in the diagnosis skin disorders in the aging populations such as melasma, kertatosis, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, skin cancers, etc. Experience in assisting physicians in the treatment of common skin disorders in the aging population. Experience in the application of a low concentration glycolic acid peel (the light peel).
  • Experience in assisting a physician in a deep chemical peel. Thorough knowledge of skin care products and terminology. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Prefer laser technician certification

    Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Act 33 Child Clearance with Renewal
  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance with Renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance
