Job Summary:
This business analyst is responsible to understand the business vision, high-level business processes, requirements, and Agile product backlog items, all aligned with traceability.  The role includes working with the executive business owner and aligning priorities of functionality.  This role should collaborate with executives and directors, team members, project managers, ScrumMasters, developers, and other business analysts.  A key focus is to enable business functionality to be delivered early and often in projects.  Another key focus is to clearly understand the business operations and work to continuously improve.

Responsibilities:
  • Assists with identifying pain points and high-level requirements of UPMC users/stakeholders (through meetings, etc.), working with the team to assist in drafting use case summaries, and developing business cases for each opportunity and project .
  • Communicates (whether in written or spoken format) activities, statuses, issues, and accomplishments to senior staff.
  • Contribute toward CMMI efforts
  • Finance (50% effort): Responsible for the accurate and timely financial reporting for activities. Verify, question and recommend approval of monthly and period Joint Venture (JV) partner invoices.
  • Maintains various sites including Pipeline/Opportunity Management tool, Website, Wiki, and SharePoint with pipeline and market research documents.
  • Market Research and Analysis (50% effort): Responsible for the day-to-day management of opportunities process including preparing information for upcoming meetings, tracking and following up on outstanding items, ensuring that the draft Statement of Work (SoW) for each opportunity is updated and accurate, and helping to coordinate relevant events (e.g. meetings, fairs, etc.).
  • Perform special projects as assigned from time to time
  • Performs market research and actively learns more about the healthcare IT industry through healthcare IT sources (e.g. Healthcare IT News, etc.) and market research databases (e.g. Forrester, etc.) to produce reports such as weekly reports (top articles, conferences, and online events), company profiles, etc.
  • Prepare and track business cases and ROI for all JV activities; work closely with Product Managers on conducting ROI analyses for specific products. This involves obtaining buy-in and approval from various UPMC CFOs and other UPMC executives as necessary.
  • Prepare, monitor, and track the budget as well as work closely with Product Managers to monitor and track UPMC/JV Partner budgets.
  • Prioritize and complete all assigned tasks.
  • Recommend best practice solution that will improve overall efficiency and quality.
  • Understand, perform, and report on contract compliance with JV partners and other UPMC divisions.

Qualifications

  • Masters degree in Health Services Administration or Masters degree in Business Administration or a quantitative field of study (i.e., mathematics, physics, economics, sciences, finance, etc.) with three years relevant experience or B.S. degree in quantitative field of study with a minimum of six years relevant experience. 
  • Three years healthcare marketing or finance experience is required. 
  • Excellent problem solving, interpersonal, organizational, analytical, and communication skills (both oral and written) are required. 
  • Excellent writing and editing skills are required. 
  • Knowledge of commercial healthcare IT products and vendors preferred. 
  • Competent in Microsoft Office (especially Visio) and PC skills. 
  • Proven ability to make and meet commitments. 
  • Ability to interact effectively with executives and business unit operations management.
  • Previous experience with Agile Scrum methodology is preferred.
  • Previous product management experience is preferred.
  • Previous experience in gathering and documenting business requirements from stakeholders is preferred.
