Description

ANCC Magnet designated UPMC Passavant is hiring a full-time Manager, Cardiac Services to support the Cardiac Stress Lab and Accredited Echocardiography Department at our McCandless location. This position will work primarily daylight shift with 24/7/365 accountability.

 

The primary responsibilities of this position will include, but is not limited to: managing the department operations and throughput of stress testing, echocardiography, ECG, Cardiac Call Center, approving staff schedules, processing payroll, recruitment, performance management, supply chain management, physician and staff satisfaction, monitoring patient safety, quality and the patient experience.

Responsibilities:

 

  • Manage day to day operations in the DCTC, ECG and Call Center at McCandless and Cranberry Campuses.
  • Collaborate with other services such as nursing, radiology and admissions to facilitate ease and careof patient throughput across the system.  This includes coordinating patient schedules with nursing units, physician offices and admissions.
  • Maintain all outcomes and records for Non-Invasive Cardiac Services.
  • Oversee the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) for Echocardiography in collaboration with the Lead Echo Technologist and Medical Director of the Echocardiography Department. 
  • Maintain all necessary staff and physician CEUs for licensure and accreditation. 
  • Comply data necessary to complete a quarterly non-invasive procedure report.
  • Participate in professional organizations and continuing education for the development of self and staff.
  • Participate in hospital and system Cardiology committees.
  • Serve as a resource person for staff and physicians.
  • Collaborate with the PACS administrator regarding software updates and issues. 
  • Maintain staff radiation protection standards as outlined by the radiation Safety Officer of UPMC Passavant.
  • Provide a safe and supportive environment for the patient undergoing non-invasive cardiology testing. 
  • Utilize and monitor all specialized equipment in the department.
  • Perform routine staff meetings with organized and relative agenda items.
  • Meet routinely with the Clinical Director of Cardiovascular Services to report operational outcomes.
  • Ongoingly assess department operations for performance improvement opportunities.  
  • Assist staff when needed to perform routine functions during simple and complex diagnostic and procedures
  • Round on patients and staff regularly using best practice strategies.
  • Manage fiscal responsibilities for respective business units.
  • Complete financial reports within deadlines.
  • Complete staff evaluations within deadlines.
  • Follow standards set by Infection Control as a result of the Department of Health and JCAHO for proper conditions for the various non-invasive procedures.
  • Inspect or assign inspection of emergency equipment and supplies for the daily operation. 
  • Participate in continuing education for the purpose of self and staff development.
  • Support the My Nursing and Imaging Career Ladders.
  • Ability to work independently and as a productive member of the leadership team.

Qualifications

  • BSN required.
  • MSN or equivalent advanced practice degree preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years experience in a Cardiovascular Specialty.
  • Leadership experience preferred
  • Demonstrates competence as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Leader. 
  • The individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately to the ages of the patients served by his/her assigned units as specified below. 
  • Must also demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide the care needs as described in the department policy and procedures.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families.
  • Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment.
  • Exemplary clinical judgment with critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving abilities required as related to various aspects of patient care.
  • Critical thinking skills necessary to exercise and to lead others in application of the nursing process.
  • Mobility and visual manual dexterity.
  • Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting and positioning of patients.

 

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Current Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse. National Certification preferred. CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
