Purpose:
RxPartners is currently hiring a full-time Pharmacy Technician at the UPMC Altoona campus. This employee will support the provision of pharmaceutical care to our patients under the general direction of the Pharmacy Manager and the general supervision of the Staff Pharmacist. These services will be provided in compliance with state and federal regulations, ACHC Standards and the mission and policy.

This position works rotating daylight shifts starting at 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM and staggering each hour up to the latest shift of 12:00 PM - 8:00 PM. Weekend shifts rotate every 3-4 weeks. 


Responsibilities:
  • Assist in maintaining adequate inventory levels on daily basis.
  • Assist in the accountability, storage, preparation and distribution of investigation and study drugs.
  • Assist in the provision of the proper injectable medications for the correct patient for administration at the appropriate time. Use proper aseptic technique in the preparation of medications. Initial/date product as required along with lot and expiration dates for all products on mixing report.
  • Assist in the training of pharmacy personnel and students.
  • Assure that all drugs are stored in compliance with Federal, State and Department Regulations.
  • Ensure all daily/weekly/monthly quality assurance indicators are completed.
  • Maintain a low amount of mix waste generated when preparing products.
  • Maintain all patient information and records.
  • Participate in departmental quality improvement activities in order to continually improve and evaluate pharmaceutical care as reflected by operational and patient care indicators.
  • Prepare cytotoxic and hazardous drugs (e.g. Chemotherapy).

Qualifications

  • Completion of a High School Diploma (or equivalent) AND one of the following:
    • Completion of a pharmacy technician program
    • 6 months pharmacy technician experience (sterile products preparation experience preferred)
    • Enrollment in good standing as a pharmacy student or accredited pharmacy technician school.
  • Pharmacy technician experience strongly preferred

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance
