In 1898, Ladies Hospital Aid Society (LHAS) began its long history of community service when 17 women met to address the pressing needs of the sick and the poor who were living in their neighborhoods. Referring to themselves as the Hebrew Ladies Hospital Aid Society, this group counted among its many philanthropic accomplishments, the opening of the original Montefiore Hospital in 1908, the construction of the current site in 1929. In 1990, Montefiore Hospital was sold and became part of the UPMC system. LHAS continues to serve the Pittsburgh community. The Clerk handles the sale of merchandise to the consumer. The Clerk is responsible for the general up keep of the Shop and performs all duties as required to ensure the daily operations are handled in an efficient and effective manner.

Responsibilities:

  • Answer any incoming phone calls and directs calls appropriately.
  • As the public face for LHAS, the Gift Shop Clerk is expected to be continuously updating their knowledge of the company�s product, services, and policies.
  • Assist customers with gift/flower suggestions and refers any customer complaints to Manager of Clerk II.
  • Conform to The Basics of Service Excellence as described in the hospital's orientation program.
  • Count change bank, Lottery bank and reconciles Lottery receipts at end of day when closing.
  • Inform Manager or Clerk II when stock items or supplies are low in need of re-ordering.
  • Maintain quality control of outgoing merchandise.
  • Maintain shop (i.e. dusting, cleaning, rubbish removal) to ensure a safe and aesthetic environment.
  • Operate cash register and Lottery machine, opens and closes Shop.
  • Receive incoming merchandise, checks invoices, unpacks and assists with pricing as directed by Manger or Clerk II.
  • Stock candy, magazines and merchandise on a daily basis as necessary.
  • Work weekends, evenings or holidays as needed.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma of equivalent 
  • Minimum of one years experience in retail sales
  • Or a combination of education and experience is required

    Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance
