Purpose:
The Susquehanna Health Records team is searching for Medical Coders to join their team!  This role will review clinical documentation and diagnostic results as appropriate to extract data and apply appropriate coding for billing, internal and external reporting, and regulatory compliance. The Coder will accurately code encounters as documented in the Official Coding Guidelines.

This position is Monday through Friday during daylight hours.  This position is based at Williamsport Regional Medical Hospital, but has the opportunity to work from home after training is complete.

Assume responsibility for personal education and performance related to patient safety; report unsafe conditions or events immediately; speak up in a non confrontational and educational manner when seeing a safety breech; develop or participate in a project or action plan to reduce risk or mitigate harm for patients, as appropriate.
  • Assign appropriate coding utilizing current classification systems.
  • Extract required information from source documentation and enter into encounter and abstracting system.
  • Follow specific guidelines to ensure appropriate code assignment and optimal reimbursement.
  • Identify when a physician query is necessary for clarification in documentation. Creates a physician query when documentation in the record is inadequate, ambiguous or unclear for coding purposes and an accurate code assignment can not be applied.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of coding guidelines and reimbursement report guidelines.
  • Respond to audit findings by providing documentation references and copies of record to Coding Manager to assist in preparing a facility response.

Qualifications

  • Six months of healthcare experience preferred.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) with no experience OR Certified Professional Coder (CPC) with one year of experience required. 
  • CPCs required to obtain Certified Coding Associate (CCA) within one year of hire.

  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance
  • Certified Professional Coder or Registered Health Information Technician
