UPMC Shadyside, together with Procirca Perfusion Services, is actively seeking a full-time Associate Director for our School of Perfusion located in Pittsburgh, PA.

As science and health care have grown, the services of the perfusionist have developed as well.

Our School of Cardiovascular Perfusion offers a:
  • Certificate program — a complete and accredited program, leading to certification with the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion.
  • Degree program — a four-year undergraduate program, in cooperation with Carlow University, leading to a bachelor's degree in biology with certification in perfusion technology.
During training, students work closely with Procirca perfusionists at UPMC and benefit from their extensive experience. By maintaining the highest level of care, the school provides students with optimum learning opportunities and a scope of activities for excellent training.

Graduates of the School of Cardiovascular Perfusion are qualified perfusion technologists at hospitals around the country. The UPMC School of Cardiovascular Perfusion placement success rate in years 2012, 2013 and 2014 is 100%.

As an experienced perfusion professional serving as our Associate Director, you will familiarize and adapt gradually to the essentials necessary to facilitate adult and small group learning methods. You will develop an understanding of how best to integrate and implement the elements of experiential and academic teaching strategies and how to distinguish and account for differences in individualized learning. You will collaborate with school faculty, cardiothoracic teams, and UPMC management in order to accomplish these objectives.

Responsibilities:
  • Chair the Program Advisory Committee in representation of the various communities of interest served by the Educational Program designed to review and revise goals and expectations in assuring program responsiveness to change.
  • Complete the WISER course for Simulation Educators and implement the best practices of simulation education and debriefing.
  • Contribute to the Department of Perfusion Services by performing the duties of a Clinical Perfusionist with an approximate ratio of 40% clinical and 60% school.
  • Cooperate with the Program Director in the organization, administration, periodic review, continued development and general effectiveness of the Perfusion Education Program.
  • Develop familiarity with the Committee Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) accreditation process; review the standards and guidelines, objectives of the Committee on Accreditation, and cardiovascular perfusion curriculum.
  • Develop proficiency in using the Tallman Perfusion Simulator Technology in providing students supervised practice.
  • Expand the contact with clinical affiliates to include site visits and teleconferences
  • Implement the Continuous Quality (CQI) assurance course of study information by organizing a student project to demonstrate how CQI is utilized in perfusion health care.
  • Maintain professional recertification by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion and Pennsylvania State Perfusion License.
  • Participate as teaching faculty in the Perfusion Program Education curriculum.
  • Participate on clinical call schedule.
  • Representat on the Perfusion Program Director Council
  • Responds to the directives of the Procirca management in support of educational healthcare service endeavors.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree  required
  • Five (5) years of professional experience as a Clinical Perfusionist and clinical activity requirements by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion for recertification
  • Two (2) years of experience as an Instructor in an Accredited Education Program in Perfusion
  • Proficiency in instructional methodology, curriculum design, program planning and counseling
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance
  • American Board Cardiovascular Perfusionist
  • Driver's License
