Description

Magee-Womens Hospital, located in Oakland, is hiring a full-time Wound Ostomy Continence Clinician to support the entire hospital.

The Wound Ostomy Continence (WOC) clinician is a Registered Nurse and a member of the care delivery team. The WOC Clinician is responsible to set the standards for the level and quality of care for patients with ostomies, incontinence, wounds, fistulas and skin care.  He/she has responsibility and authority and accountability for the provision of WOC nursing care to applicable patients. He/she provides clinical support and direction to WOC prepared and non-WOC prepared nurses within the entire hospital of Magee-Womens Hospital. 

The role of the WOC Clinician encompasses leadership, partnership, and collaboration with other members of the Healthcare Team. The WOC Nurse Clinician demonstrates a commitment to the community and to the nursing profession.

Responsibilities:
  • Actively participates in shared governance at department level and serves on or acts as a resource to hospital-wide councils. Responsible for providing service-based education and clinical expertise for staff including orientation and training.  
  • Serves as a leader in clinical nursing practice, identifying patient and staff focused opportunities for improvement and leading the change process. Identifies, educates and supports the psychological and learning needs of staff during change and transition.
  • Participates in the system wide meetings of WOCN nurses.  Acts as a consultant and liaison for system wide initiatives relevant to area of clinical expertise.  
  • Leads the business unit's skin care team
  • Conducts in-services and formal lectures for nursing units and other members of the Health care team.  Responsible for policy review and updates as needed within the specialty.  Contributes to the professional development of the unit base skin care committee by participation in clinical development of the unit representatives and coordination of the meeting agendas Identifies opportunities for clinical quality as well as workplace improvement. Applies evidence based practice aspect of professional practice.  
  • Chairs or participates the WOCN Value Analysis Team. Coordinates and evaluates equipment and products for ostomy and skin care needs for the health system to ensure cost effective quality patient care
  • Conducts stoma site marking according to the accepted standard of stoma marking to ensure proper placement of an abdominal stoma. Maintains ongoing follow-up evaluation for appropriate ostomy and/or skin care patients with needs after discharge from the hospital to provide for continuity of care.  
  • Incorporates national professional organizations (NPUAP) and (WOCN) as well as business unit and health system's goals to improve patient quality, safety and satisfaction in daily work. 

Qualifications

  • BSN required 
  • MSN preferred 
  • Minimum of 3 years nursing experience required
  • Certificate of attendance of a WOCN board certified WOCNEP required

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Certification in wound and ostomy from the WOCN required 
  • Act 33 Child Clearance with Renewal
  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance with Renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance
  • Basic Life Support or Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation
  • Registered Nurse
