Description

  • Assist the Family Medicine Residency Program Director in providing care to Residency Center patients, in teaching and evaluating residents, and in managing the Family Medicine Residency Program.
  • Coordinate, teach, and evaluate resident physicians and medical students with regard to behavioral and community medicine principles and practices that are appropriate to the curriculum of a family medicine residency program.
  • Coordinate residents' wellness and required instruction in the fields of impairment and fatigue.
  • Manages the faculty's input and policy-making with regard to recruiting medical students to apply to this institution for their post-graduate training in Family Medicine.

Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for developing curriculum and evaluation methods as well as their implementation and monitoring for quality control.
  • Responsible for developing and delivering or organizing the delivery of didactics on well-being, professionalism, appropriate communication between staff, peers, and patients.
  • Sits on Wellness Committee and is responsible for developing and delivering or organizing the delivery of didactic and other programming around physician well-being, suicide prevention, and burn-out to all faculty and residents.
  • Administers semi-annual survey on wellness and burn-out.
  • Sits on system committee and represents the residency for this area.
  • Develops the schedule and carries out the process of performing and videotaping residents in the outpatient setting.
    • Reviews candid videotaping with residents and faculty advisor.
    • Documents on evaluation forms and submits to Core Competency Committee.
  • Serves as one of the core members of the Core Competency Committee, whose purpose is to develop all evaluation materials for program.
    • Specifically responsible for developing the evaluation process for the Interpersonal Communication and the Professionalism core competencies.
    • Provides extensive reviews of each resident's performance with other members of the Core Competency Committee.
  • Actively practice behaviors associated with UPMC Susquehanna Service Excellence expectations.
  • Know and follow all organizational/departmental policies/procedures.
  • Assume responsibility for personal development and education.
  • Incorporate leading/evidence-based practice in quality/safety into work everyday.
    • Commit to high quality, safe work; encourage others to have similar standards.
    • Identify processes/systems that could lead to inefficient practices, unsafe conditions, errors or adverse events.
    • Avoid shortcuts to ensure quality and safety measures are not circumvented.
    • Encourage patient and family involvement in processes involving patient safety.
    • Speak up with other service partners to ensure high quality and safety. 
    • Report serious events/incidents per policy.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a mental health related field from an accredited college or university required.
  • Two years experience in psychotherapy required.
  • Two years of post-graduate work experience and work with a family medicine residency program preferred.
  • Pennsylvania Licensed Mental Health profession licensure.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Licensed Mental Health professional in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania required.
  • Act 33 Child Clearance with Renewal
  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance with Renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance
