Our Director of Cultural Excellence will be responsible for developing and leading the annual planning process of the nursing and organizational strategic plan; identifying critical issues and strategic opportunities in nursing; and develop strategic recommendations to management on how to optimize growth and development of our nursing division.

Directly reporting to our Chief Nursing Officer and VP of Patient Care Services and Operations, you will work closely to serve as Magnet program director. You will prepare for the Retreat and Planning sessions of the Nursing Division by developing presentations, articles, and outlines to showcase innovative work, and monitor national trends in nursing and company news.

You will promote the knowledge of nursing across the hospital and develop and monitor the annual strategic plan. Your primary focus will also include planning, organizing, directing, leading, and evaluating central nursing programs that include professional and leadership development, education, evidence-based practice, research, Magnet program, and nurse retention.

Responsibilities:
  • Assure that the values, mission, and established standards of the hospital and department of nursing are in synch.
  • Establish timely and effective communication with leadership within and outside of the Department of Nursing and inform them of important issues and trends.
  • Show evidence of regular two-way communication between central nursing and all levels of unit staff; be accessible to staff.
  • Keep appropriate staff informed of internal and external issues that affect practice,workforce and operations.
  • Model behavior that is conducive to positive employee relations and consistent with organizational values.
  • Exemplify values, mission and standards of the organization and the Department of Nursing.
  • Provide leadership and direction for the goals of the nursing councils that are consistent with the priorities of the Department of Nursing and the organization.
  • Establish processes necessary to assure timely implementation of the strategic goals for the nursing division.
  • Establish programs that are consistent with Magnet, institutional, professional, and accreditation standards.
  • Lead, manage and evaluate nursing systems and processes that support clinical practice and nursing staff.
  • Ensure educational programs are in place to support clinical competence and professional development.
  • Promote and support the development and implementation of research and use relevant results to improve systems of care delivery and clinical practice.
  • Direct the activities related to career development of nursing personnel.
  • Provide leadership for patient care service lines beyond inpatient nursing.
  • This individual will be responsible for directing the nursing practice, education and nursing research, working with staff, faculty and peers in designing, implementing and evaluating programs in each area and development of staff for Magnet redesignation.
  • Collaborate with the CNO and other directors in the development, implementation and evaluation of the Health System strategic plans, objectives, and standards.
  • In conjunction with the CNO establish short and long term goals for the Department of Nursing consistent with institutional priorities.
  • Ensure appropriate implementation of goals, taking into consideration the impact on new and existing programs, human and material resources, and funding.
  • This role will provide leadership for ongoing implementation of the evidence-based practice model, serve as the primary resource for all nursing research initiatives, and coordination of a variety of educational and strategic planning initiatives.
  • Develop existing strategies to promote the knowledge of nursing across the hospital.
  • This individual will be viewed as the expert in the field for the nursing staff, in particular as it relates to organizational development, evidence-based practice, nursing research, Magnet program and the development of education and nursing advancement.

Qualifications

  • Masters required, doctorate preferred
  • 10 years in nursing leadership
  • Previous pediatric nursing experience a plus
  • Previous Magnet-hospital experience a plus
  • Nursing executive certification required
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Act 31 Clearance
  • Act 33 Child Clearance with Renewal
  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance with Renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance
  • Registered Nurse
