Description

Purpose:
This position will focus on geriatric psychiatry and late-life spousal bereavement.  The healthy aging lab is currently conducting intervention studies to decrease depression in older adults who are caregivers and older adults who are grieving the recent loss of a spouse/partner.



Responsibilities:

  • Assist with recruitment, scheduling appointments, obtaining written consent forms, collecting data by conducting phone or face to face interviews for research project(s).
  • Data Collection & Management The RA assists with management of the RedCap database by entering and verifying data, highlighting any issues with the database that may need to be modified and updated, and by ensuring data integrity. Maintenance of the database includes regular checking and occasional revision of the assessments, addition of data fields as necessary, and updates to the database based on suggestions from the recruitment and data monitoring meetings. These updates are made based on the notes that the RA takes during the recruitment and data monitoring meetings with the Principal Investigator and Co-Investigators.
  • IRB Submission & Management The RA assists with the IRB application submission and modification. Completion of the IRB application and modifications require frequent communication with the IRB review coordinators; this ensures that the protocol follows ethical guidelines and upholds good clinical practice.
  • Maintain accurate documentation.
  • Recruitment The RA is responsible for recruiting participants. This includes identifying and contacting potential recruitment sites, posting flyers in common areas, and contacting potential participants from recruitment pools such as Pitt+Me. The RA also conducts phone screenings; this helps with determining participant eligibility.
  • Study Coordination and Scheduling The RA handles the scheduling of participants to facilitate smooth coordination of the study. The RA coordinates and schedules with the Principal Investigator, phlebotomy lab, parking, and technology programmers (when appropriate). The RA assists with the execution of the intervention, which includes, but is not limited to, participant care and management, clinical assessments, communication with other research staff, and the acquisition of clinical, behavioral, and actigraphy data. Participant management consists of confirming subject participation, establishing rapport with the participant, waiting with participants in the phlebotomy lab, and monitoring of participants well being.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required preferably in psychology or related field.
  • Familiarity with computers and common software packages required.
  • Prior related work experience in a research setting preferred.
  • Working knowledge of research methodology strongly preferred.

  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance
  • Comprehensive Crisis Management
