Description

Purpose:
UPMC Enterprise Architecture is hiring a Systems Engineer – Associate to help support, administer, design, and implement cloud based solutions inside of our hybrid cloud environment. The candidate will collaborate closely with the Cloud Architect to standardize, solidify, and maintain our cloud and software defined data center (SDDC) strategy across the enterprise. The candidate will be expected to thrive in an agile, high-pace environment and should be have some experience or knowledge of the SDLC, documentation, knowledge transfer, and dev-ops workflows. To help utilize ever-changing cloud services effectively, UPMC is looking to hire a forward-thinking engineer who is willing to learn on the fly, quickly provide value, and help move our cloud journey forward.
 
The ideal candidate must also be able to learn new APIs quickly and understand programmatically which calls need to be made to accomplish tasks associated with various infrastructure apps. They will design, document, and communicate solutions that simplify and abstract various APIs, making them seamless, and vendor agnostic, contributing to the SDDC framework.


Responsibilities:
  • Communication - Responsible for demonstrating appropriate, clear, concise, and effective written and oral communications in all interactions to build relationships and accomplish day to day work and projects.
  • Core technology concepts - Responsible for showing a basic understanding of designated technologies and their use. Demonstrates the initiative to learn internal processes and procedures.
  • End user support - Complete basic documented tasks related to end user support.
  • Interactions with Others - Successfully completes projects, tasks, and initiatives by embracing a team-first approach. Works in collaboration with team and offers feedback, where appropriate, to complete individual and group efforts. Shows the ability to adjust and be flexible to change by adapting approach when necessary.
  • Maintenance/Upgrades - Follow documented procedures for maintenance and upgrades. Responsible for assisting with Disaster Recovery Plan.
  • Project Management - Complete basic project-related tasks and tasks delegated by more senior members of the team. Responsible for time tracking and updating documentation.
  • Self Development - Responsible for continuous self-study, trainings, partnering with more senior members of team, and/or seeking out opportunities to broaden scope to stay up to date with industry and organizational trends. Seeks feedback from senior team members for development and effectively incorporates feedback into work and behaviors.
  • Troubleshooting/Critical Thinking - Ability to resolve basic issues or offer input on issue resolution.

Qualifications

  • Typically has familiarity with complex systems environments through education or practical experience.
  • Ability to perform basic/standard IT procedures and protocols.
  • This position may be required to maintain a 24/7 off hours support as part of a rotation within the team.
  • The frequency varies based upon the number of colleagues in the rotation.

Preferences:

  • Passion for DevOps style workflows in an agile environment
  • Ability to multitask well and take on several projects at the same time
  • A strong understanding of cloud-based services in a hybrid cloud environment.
  • Any level of experience designing implementing and maintaining Microsoft Azure IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS solutions
  • Hands-on experience with .NET framework, node.js, Kubernetes, OpenShift, and scripting languages such as PowerShell, Python, bash, etc. is preferred
  • Ability to move between Linux and Windows operating systems seamlessly
  • Understanding of automation techniques and concepts and an automation-first approach toward designing and implementing solutions
  • Understanding of infrastructure-as-code concepts and willingness to codify processes to become more efficient
  • Knowledge of the full stack would be a plus – database, networking, application layer, presentation layer, integration concepts, data visualization
  • Understanding of the importance of communication and knowledge transfer to maintain synergy across cloud based support groups inside the organization
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills and strong technical learning aptitude required. Looking for a team player who strives to collaborate effectively to accomplish goals
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Any knowledge of general Enterprise Architecture concepts is a bonus
