Description

Purpose:

Design and specify signs for all levels of projects. Take requests from and interface with UPMC staff; design, specify, and oversee production of exterior signage, interior signage and display materials in support of UPMC's mission and vision. Work with production vendors in the creation and implementation of signage and related materials.

Responsibilities:
  • Follow general direction, scope, budgets and schedules as provided by Sign Planning & Design Associate Director, Sign Project Managers, and other staff.
  • Meet with clients, staff, vendors and other key personnel - and conduct surveys at project sites - to gather relevant project information.
  • Plan and program signage; prepare sign lists, messaging, and sign location plans as needed.  
  • Design signs, including exterior, interior, standard and custom signs, with proper attention to function, concept and visual appearance.
  • Prepare sign layouts according to pre-established design templates for various projects. 
  • Maintain the UPMC institutional identity and graphic standards on UPMC materials. 
  • Interact with production vendors; release sign artwork and specifications, review vendor shop drawing/technical engineering blueprints/specifications for accuracy, troubleshoot difficulties as they arise, and attend vendor shop checks to ensure that high quality production is achieved at all times.
  • Supervise signage installations; oversee installers as necessary. 
  • Inspect all completed signage on site in a timely fashion; create, distribute and manage completion of punch lists and change orders as needed. 
  • Organize and file paperwork, artwork, digital files, photographs and samples accordingly. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned.   

Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in Graphic Design, Environmental Design, Signage Technology/ Management/ Production, or related field preferred. 
  • Three years of professional experience in the field preferred. 
  • Three dimensional visualization ability and ability to read blueprints and other architectural documents is preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of signage specifications, manufacturing and installation preferred.
  • Strong signage design and graphic design ability with knowledge of the Illustrator Program preferred.
