Description

Purpose:
Provide prehospital / paramedic patient care and clinical support services in accordance with established policies and procedures as well as state law, and as may be directed by medic command physician, to assure that the highest degree of quality patient care can be maintained at all times.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist with physical, respiratory and cardiopulmonary therapies.
  • Assume responsibility for assignment and views problems as challenges.
  • Assure equipment malfunctions are reported to the appropriate department.
  • Communicate / document complete and concise patient reports.
  • Complete required education to maintain medic command.

  • Works under the direction of the RN to provide care in the Emergency Department. No medication administration is permitted.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Paramedic, certified by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Prehospital training required.
  • Successful completion of mandatory education provided by UPMC Health System.
  • Microcomputer experience preferred. Successful completion of basic information system training is mandatory. Professional verbal and written communication is essential. Customer service skills are essential.

    Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
    Paramedic certification in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is required. Medic Command (currently employed on the Response Team) or eligibility to receive medic command (new hires) is required. Current ACLS certification is required. Current PALS certification is required. EVOC certification is required. CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire. Current Pennsylvania driver's license is required.
