UPMC Corporate Revenue Cycle is actively seeking a Director of Application Development and Vendor Strategy to lead a team of centralized analysts responsible for implementing new technology, managing vendor performance, and performing assessments to identify areas for increased operational efficiency. As Director, you will partner with other Central Service teams, Operations, and ISD on these projects, and will be responsible for ensuring projects align with Revenue Cycle strategic initiatives.

Responsibilities:
  • Ability to proactively prioritize time-sensitive requests with finite resource
  • Assists the teams (department and facility) in the proper analysis and presentation of information using various clinical and administrative systems and the corporate databases
  • Consistently identifies and understands technical issues presented by assignments. Understands the clinical needs of assigned projects to further progress process improvement using analyses and recommendations
  • Convey complex analytical results or system solutions clearly and with conviction to decision makers and other stakeholders
  • Represents a team of individuals that create reports and analytics solutions and has decision rights and accountability over analytics solutions (e.g., reports and business intelligence solutions). Responsibilities include but are not limited to, reducing duplication of solutions, confirming to standard definitions and presentation guidelines, maintaining integrity of business intelligence solutions, identifying common facts and dimensions used for analytics and participating in Data Governance activities.
  • Develops plan and determines pertinent information to be extracted from the electronic health record and other information systems (MARs, Power Chart, Cerner, MediPac, etc) for inclusion in and submission to UPMC and national databases, as applicable to the Meaningful Use and P4P.
  • Display strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to present highly technical topics to an executive audience
  • Encourages the use of health IT for continuous quality improvement at the point of care and the exchange of information in the most structured format possible to support P4P initiatives
  • Engage with operations to understand their unique objectives, problems and requirements and address them with technology solutions where applicable
  • Exhibit strong leadership skills and executive presence
  • Identifies needs for decision support tools, such as SmartSets, Reporting Work Bench and Best Practice Alerts and works with ISD to develop and implement such tools in order to meet requirements.
  • Identifies problems and develops meaningful recommendations as a result of work performed
  • Implement and monitor effectiveness of software solutions and vendor performance
  • Interfaces with ISD in the process of measure selection, developing the operational specifications, data mining, quality control, analysis, and reporting as relates to PSD clinical optimization revenue enhancement initiatives
  • Manages assigned reports, including analysis, processing, submission, and final review
  • Maximizes the use of EPIC for assuring that health record information needed for P4P and quality initiatives is more easily accessible for date abstraction, analysis, and reporting. Designs and analyzes reports highlighting opportunities to improve clinical performance/patient care
  • Mentor and train staff and management members
  • Serve as a subject-matter expert on technology solutions, market opportunities, and the UPMC application portfolio

Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Business, Management, Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Relevant experience in lieu of degree considered 
  • Minimum of 5 years Healthcare Revenue Cycle, Finance, or ISD experience is required 
  • Strong prioritization and project management skills as well as in-depth healthcare business knowledge combined with thorough understanding of analysis and presentation, underlying business processes and the ability to assess how process changes impact organizational performance 
  • Experience with existing applications preferred with a strong understanding of emerging market trends and opportunities for growth 
  • Strong analytical skills and organization required
  • Strong communication skills and ability to present findings to both internal management and external parties required
