Description

Dr Sadovsky at Magee-Womens Research Institute in Oakland is recruiting a full-time Research Assistant (Basic Science). In our lab we study feto-placental development, which is critical for long-term health and wellness. Using human placental cells, mouse models, and placental samples from abnormal human pregnancies, we investigate molecular pathways that govern placental adaptive response to diverse stressors that adversely influence the balance between placental cell injury and repair. Primary areas of inquiry include: (1) the role of microRNAs in placental function, combining computationally identified sets of miRNA targets, RNAseq, and functional assays to decipher the critical role of unique placental microRNAs in response to cell injury, (2) microRNA packaging and trafficking within exosomes and other extracellular vesicles, and (3) placental uptake, storage and mobilization of lipid derivatives that are critical for feto-placental development.

Research at Magee-Womens Research Institute centers on reproductive biology and a range of health conditions that affect women, including fertility, development, pregnancy, genetics, infectious diseases, gynecology, cancer, and general women’s health.

Primary duties include isolation and culture of primary placental human cells and cell lines, strong emphasis on histology, immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence, in situ hybridization, and work with mice, including handling, genotyping, breeding and performance of basic manipulations. Additional duties include assistance in general laboratory experiments, laboratory operation, maintenance of equipment and safety. Computer skills in MS office and graphics are desired.
