Description

The University of Pittsburgh and UPMC Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation are seeking candidates for a Physician Assistant/CRNP to support our growing practice.  This position provides patient care services, including assessing and managing patients in the outpatient environment, by following established standards and practices. Responsibilities of this position include:
  • Provide neuro-rehabilitative outpatient care for the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation for adult and pediatric patients with spina bifida, spinal cord injury, brain injury, and other related neurologic conditions.   
  • Remain up to date with compliance regulations regarding the care of patients in the outpatient rehabilitation setting at UPMC Mercy.
  • Perform complete physical exams, obtain complete medical history, monitor therapies, give injections and medications, and record findings.  Order appropriate referrals, equipment, and laboratory and diagnostic procedures.   Document patient information and care provided in patient record and maintain tracking statistics. 
  • Provide Care coordination services including scheduling appointments, triaging patient care issues, providing telephonic support, communicating with patients via myUPMC, and following up on outstanding patient issues and tests
  • Communicate with other specialty services (e.g. neurosurgery, urology) regarding patient care issues
  • Initiate and/or complete all administrative tasks including assisting with chart reviews for patient tracking, managing some issues related to budget, and developing patient education materials
  • Conduct and schedule Telemedicine visits
  • Under the guidance of attending physician, the candidate will also have the opportunity to perform minor procedures, manage medication, and administer/prescribe medications and injections in compliance with state law and clinic guidelines, as directed by physician and as defined in written agreement. 
  • Instruct patient/family regarding medications and treatments 
  • Educate patients regarding health and illness prevention.  Recommend community resources to meet patient and family needs, and make appropriate referrals for outpatient follow-up. 
  • Provide continuity of patient care in collaboration with other health care professionals 
  • Participate in activities that contribute to education and research, including precepting students, residents and fellows. 
  • Comply with requirements of appropriate regulatory agencies (i.e. OSHA, CLIA, PA Department of Health). 
  • Attend continuing education activities
  • Perform community outreach activities
  • Perform within the scope of the agreement 

Qualifications

Position Specific Licensure/Certifications: 
Act 34 Criminal Clearance
Physician Assistant & NCCPA
CPR or ACLS
 
Educational/Knowledge Requirements: 
  • Graduate of physician assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review. Commission on Education for the physician assistant (ARC-PA) required.  BS or MS candidate preferred.  Experience as physician assistant and/or experience in a clinical setting preferred.

  • Successful completion of an approved nurse practitioner program required.  BSN, MSN preferred.  Professional nursing experience and/or nurse practitioner experience preferred
