Description

The University of Pittsburgh and UPMC Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation are seeking candidates for a Physician Assistant/CRNP for our growing PM&R practice.  This position provides patient care services in collaboration with our inpatient physiatrists, including assessing and managing patients in the inpatient environment, by following established standards and practices. Responsibilities of this position include:
  • Perform consultative services for the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation for patients in the acute inpatient setting to determine rehabilitation needs. The candidate will be expected to evaluate patients independently and appropriately triage patients for further evaluation by attending physician as needed.  
  • Care for patients at hospital acute inpatient rehabilitation units and transitional rehabilitation units at UPMC Shadyside and UPMC St. Margaret.
  • Remain up to date with compliance regulations regarding the care of patients in the inpatient rehabilitation setting.
  • Perform complete physical exams, obtain complete medical history, monitor therapies, give injections and medications, and record findings.  Order appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures.   Document patient information and care provided in patient record and maintain statistics. 
  • Determine appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and develops treatment options. 
  • Provide acute and chronic patient care including taking histories, doing physicals, monitoring therapies, giving injections and medications. 
  • Perform minor procedures and assists in surgery, as directed by physician and as defined in written agreement. 
  • Initiate and/or completes all administrative tasks and acquires all necessary information, instructions or materials. 
  • Perform procedures as directed by physician and/or as directed by written agreement 
  • Administer medications and injections in compliance with state law and clinic guidelines 
  • Instruct patient/family regarding medications and treatments 
  • Educate patients regarding health and illness prevention.  Recommend community resources to meet patient and family needs, and make appropriate referrals for outpatient follow-up. 
  • Triage patient telephone calls and provide consultation.  Initiate or complete administrative tasks and acquire all necessary information, instructions, and materials as required. 
  • Provide continuity of patient care in collaboration with other health care professionals 
  • Participate in activities that contribute to education and research, including precepting students. 
  • Comply with requirements of appropriate regulatory agencies (i.e. OSHA, CLIA, PA Department of Health). 
  • Perform within the scope of the agreement 

Qualifications

Position Specific Licensure/Certifications: 
Act 34 Criminal Clearance
Physician Assistant & NCCPA
CPR or ACLS
 
Educational/Knowledge Requirements: 
  • Graduate of physician assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review. Commission on Education for the physician assistant (ARC-PA) required.  BS or MS candidate preferred.  Experience as physician assistant and/or experience in a clinical setting preferred.

  • Successful completion of an approved nurse practitioner program required.  BSN, MSN preferred.  Professional nursing experience and/or nurse practitioner experience preferred
