Description

UPMC is looking for security or law enforcement professionals to help support our mission of Quality & Safety for patients, visitors, and fellow employees.  UPMC Presbyterian’s Safety and Security Department is currently hiring a Security Officer to fill rotating shifts.

The Security Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, staff and all UPMC owned and adjacent properties.  They will enforce UPMC rules and regulations to both employees and the public, patrol UPMC hospitals, buildings, grounds and associated areas to prevent, investigate, and document arson, theft and vandalism and any other criminal activity, monitor security, fire, and environmental alarms. Assist in follow-up as necessary and respond to and resolve problems, dispute and unusual circumstances as necessary.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist with traffic control as necessary.
  • Completion of reports and incident documentation as necessary.
  • Control evidence, valuables, lost/found as necessary.
  • Handle disruptive visitors, patients, and staff by verbal communication, physical intervention and/or arrests as necessary.
  • Inspect incoming/outgoing parcels as necessary to prevent theft of hospital property. Check permission slips to remove discarded material from UPMC property.
  • Investigate incidents of unusual circumstances reported by UPMC staff, visitors, physicians and patients.
  • Maintain security and safety of UPMC buildings, persons, property, and assets.
  • Operate UPMC vehicles in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Pennsylvania Vehicle Code and maintain any issued equipment.
  • Prepare and complete all mandatory training programs as per departmental guidelines.
  • Provide protection and enforcement of local laws, UPMC policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
  • Serve as a member of the fire response team and responds to various security-related alarms. Respond to emergency calls for assistance, and disasters.
  • Testify in legal proceedings as required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associates degree in Criminal Justice preferred.
  • 1 year experience in safety, security, law enforcement or related field preferred.
  • Excellent customer service skills required to handle all levels of personnel, patients, and visitors.
  • High level of integrity required for handling sensitive/confidential UPMC information.
  • Ability to defuse and handle distraught or hostile person(s) in a professional manner required.
  • Good oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to deal with stress and potentially dangerous conflict situations.
  • Available for all shifts.
  • Guards/Officers are required to wear a bullet proof vest

    Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Act 235
  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance
  • Basic Life Support or Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation
  • Driver's License
  • UPMC Physical Fitness Standard
