Research Coordinator | Center for Adolescent Rewards, Rhythms and Sleep (CARRS)


This Research Coordinator will help to implement a NIH-funded Center grant at the Center for Adolescent Rewards, Rhythms and Sleep (CARRS) examining sleep, circadian rhythms, brain function, mood, and behavior in adolescents. They would be primarily responsible for conducting recruitment tasks such as contacting recruitment sources to advertise CARRS projects to adolescents, following-up with newly screened adolescents, documenting communication with participants, conducting consent visits, scheduling lab visits, and paying participants. Additionally, this individual will be responsible for implementing a behavioral sleep intervention including setting up for and collecting data during sleep lab visits with adolescent participants (including fMRI visits & bio-sample collection and processing).

The Research Coordinator will work closely with the Project Coordinator, other research/recruitment staff, the data manager, the staff of the Sleep and Behavioral Neuroscience Center and the Magnetic Resonance Research Center and will be involved in general lab management. The ideal candidate has experience with or an interest in working with adolescents and has an interest in psychiatric and/or bio-medical research.   Additionally, this candidate will have excellent communication skills, is highly organized, enjoys working in a collaborative work environment, enjoys new learning experiences, enjoys interacting with new people, and embodies a professional work ethic: timeliness, dependability, adaptability, and leadership skills. The position requires some early evening and weekend hours.

This position is grant funded.

Independently execute job functions for research protocol(s).  Collect and gather research data for research project.


  • Develop and distribute advertisement materials for research projects to various recruitment sources
  • Manage, monitor, and train junior recruitment staff 
  • Follow up with newly screened potential participants
  • Maintain and monitor log of contact attempts, eligibility, and scheduling status
  • Schedule participants for lab visits & following up with participants until study completion
  • Pay and document participant payment
  • Collect data according to study protocols, including behavioral tasks and fMRI scans.
  • Perform other research duties as assigned.
  • Perform in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.


  • B.A. degree, or equivalent combination of experience and training - including 3-5 years of experience in coordinating multiple aspects of research projects (patient recruitment, assessment, treatment planning, and data collection,) required.
  • Prior experience with recruitment or screening potential participants preferred.
  • Previous experience with adolescents and/or families is preferred.
  • Familiarity with computers and common software packages required.
  • Familiarity with ACCESS & EXCEL preferred.
  • Working knowledge of research methodology strongly preferred.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends (including Saturdays and/or Sundays).

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
