Across UPMC, our guiding principle is to always prioritize the safety of our employees, patients, and members. UPMC believes that vaccination is important, helps protect all, and advocates that everyone who can be vaccinated should be vaccinated.

UPMC complies with all governmental requirements related to local, state, and federal COVID-19 vaccination for employment. The Jan. 13 Supreme Court of the United States decision that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services federal COVID-19 vaccine mandate will move forward requires UPMC to ensure employees either get vaccinated or receive a requested medical or religious exemption.

Development Associate


St. Margaret Foundation at UPMC St. Margaret Hospital in Pittsburgh is looking for a Development Associate. The two priority traits we seek are “initiative” and “kindness.” We need a self-starter who is resourceful, considerate, and flexible. This is a small office with three people and a very pleasant atmosphere where we care about each other. Each person has their own office and a lot of creative freedom with accountability. The work is very diverse. No two days are the same. We have a development plan, project management board, and a calendar by week/month. A good candidate would be able to flow in an ever-changing environment. The focus is on our online newsletter, giving initiatives, social media, and our Hope Challenge virtual event. Parking is on-site. Opportunity to work remotely two days a week!


Creates and coordinates tools and resources, conducts gift processing, and supports outreach efforts that relate to fundraising.


  • Prepare appeal letters.
  • Assist with the creation and content for the Foundation online newsletter and social media content.
  • Coordinate annual campaign including planning, mailings, written materials, and financial report for in-person and virtual events including but not limited to the Hope Challenge and Employee campaigns.
  • Maintain and update fundraising/donor tracking database which includes confidential donor/financial information, enters and accurately records donors' gift as well as updating mailing lists.
  • Identify and seek businesses for sponsorship opportunities.



  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, advertising, public relations, communications, liberal arts, journalism, business or related field.
  • 1-3 years of experience in development, communications, business, data management or related field preferred.
  • Experience with development and/or fundraising in a health care, education or community non-profit setting preferred.
  • Strong verbal, written, interpersonal and problem-solving skills and the ability to work with many different constituencies such as donors, volunteers, trustees and staff required.
  • Ability to present a professional image of the hospital and articulate mission and values of the hospital.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to meet deadlines in fast-paced environment, and handle multiple projects simultaneously with accuracy required.
  • Capacity to work independently and as part of a team to fulfill goals of the department required.
  • High level of enthusiasm, initiative, motivation and self-direction required.
