Research Associate WPIC - The Center for Autism & Developmental Disorders-Outpatient Programs


The Center for Autism & Developmental Disorders-Outpatient Programs, part of UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital, is hiring a full-time Research Associate WPIC to support several studies that focus on research for individuals with autism spectrum disorders and other developmental disabilities and to assist in the execution of research protocols.

The Research Associate WPIC will be responsible for patient electronic medical record chart reviews, study recruitment via telephone and/or face-to-face contact with potential study participants, data entry in various data entry platforms, setting up A/V equipment for presentations for faculty and/or other staff and otherwise assisting with ongoing research efforts.

This position is grant funded.


  • Data entry, via manual and electronic data capture
  • Clinical Chart Reviews
  • Participant recruitment including assisting in informed consent process
  • Maintain accurate study documentation  
  • Reminder Calls to study participants
  • Administration of study measures including questionnaires and scoring
  • Tracking study appointments
  • Assisting in planning events for family support groups
  • Contact and interact with physicians and clinicians regarding potential study participants
  • Perform in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor


  • Bachelors degree required preferably in Psychology or related field.
  • Familiarity with computers and common software packages required, including Power Point and statistical programs such as SPSS.
  • Prior related work experience in a research setting preferred.
  • Working knowledge of research methodology strongly preferred.
  • Experience with IT including iOS and Android applications and teleconferencing strongly preferred.
  • Previous human subjects research experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills highly preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written skills strongly preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Must be able to work collaboratively and independently as necessary.

  • Comprehensive Crisis Management (CCMC)
  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
