Job Summary:
Manager of Finance will conduct accounting & financial analysis related functions related to insurance accounting and reporting in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP) by submitting financial reports and forecasts to the Insurance Division management, external auditors, and external regulators.  This is a hybrid role, requiring two days in-office per week and three days remote.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Trains new employees in the Accounting department.
  • Supervises and manages the Insurance Accounting departments assignments and priorities.
  • Assigns financial responsibilities in consultation with the Chief Financial Officer.
  • Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.


  • Oversee the recording, classifying, and summarizing of GAAP and SAP financial transactions and events.
  • Support of the annual external audit and ownership of the review and completion of the audited statutory financial statements.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly Risk Based Capital (RBC) projections and the preparation of proforma financial statements, as requested by Management.  
  • Coordinating with the UPMC Corporate Treasury team with the overall cashflow from the Insurance Services Division from the regulated entities
  • Perform complex statistical, cost, and financial analysis of data reported.
  • Perform ad hoc analysis on competitor financial data
  • Interpret financial transactions and events for users who must make economic or business decisions.
  • *Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.
  • *Performs other duties as assigned.



  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related business field, with a minimum of six years of related accounting work experience or
  • Master’s degree or CPA license and minimum of five years of work experience.
  • Minimum of one year managerial or supervisory experience required.
  • Experience in the Insurance industry (Health and/or Property & Casualty) is preferred
  • Microsoft Office spreadsheet application and Accounting Software experience preferred.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • CPA/MBA preferred
