The Director, Finance of UPMC's International Division is responsible for all finance operations oversight including, but not limited to: accounting and financial reporting, budgeting and forecast consolidation, Executive presentation and analysis, internal and external audit support, as well as controllership/reconciliation. They will additionally provide fiscal consultation, leadership and support to clinical and administrative personnel within the UPMC International network. To successfully perform in this role, the incumbent must possess strong management, communication and organization skills in addition to an excellent understanding of accounting procedures and financial analysis including GAAP, statutory and other regulatory bases. An ability to lead, manage and mentor team through development and opportunity is very important.

The International team has a strong advisory panel of experts. You would not be expected to know all International regulatory requirements, but you should be competent in taking advice and delivering comprehensive analysis and options




  • Under the strategic direction of the Executive Finance Leader, provide fiscal and administrative support to senior management in the development, design and implementation of programs and services essential to the missions and goals of UPMC International.
  • Develop, along with senior Management, the annual operating and capital budgets for UPMC International. Coordinate, analyze, and report all accounting and internal and external financial reporting for UPMC International.
  • Function as UPMC International's liaison for fiscal support services performed by UPMC, including purchasing, accounts payable, payroll, billing, and collection.
  • Assist with staff development and training initiatives.  Promote teamwork to more effectively accomplish goals while improving staff interaction and development.
  • Provide mentorship and aide in staff professional development.
  • Coordinate, analyze and report the financial performance for use with internal management. 
  • Represent the Finance Department as required at internal and external functions as deemed necessary.  When applicable, provide presentations concerning financial matters. 
  • Work closely with UPMC Compliance Officer and UPMC Legal to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements applicable to UPMC International. Assist in the development of internal policies and procedures in response to changes in laws and regulations.
  • Ability to remain highly motivated and results oriented to accomplish the goals and objectives established by executive management.
  • Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.



  • Bachelor of Science in Finance, Accounting, or related field required.

    • CPA, Chartered Accountant certification or MBA preferred

    • An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

  • Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in finance with at least 2 years of progressive leadership experience.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of the healthcare market as well as the service delivery and financing systems that are successful in a managed care environment.

  • A clear understanding of hospital, outpatient operational plans, budgeting and business partnering

  • Prior working experience in financial analysis and pro-forma presentation preferred.

  • Proficiency in various computer software packages such as Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, PeopleSoft, COGNOS, and AFM. 

  • Ability to grasp customer needs and to define and carry out projects effectively utilizing a team of financial analysts and/or accountants. 

  • Managerial/supervisory skills necessary to plan, organize, motivate, direct and integrate the activities of finance departments..

  • Ability to work well with clinical, administrative and faculty personnel and function as reference source for relevant business and financial principles is essential to effective program management.
