UPMC complies with all governmental requirements related to local, state, and federal COVID-19 vaccination for employment. The Jan. 13 Supreme Court of the United States decision that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services federal COVID-19 vaccine mandate will move forward requires UPMC to ensure employees either get vaccinated or receive a requested medical or religious exemption.

Experience Designers work across levels of the design scale from big picture strategy and future visions, to making critical UX/UI improvements in our digital products. They are problem-solvers, working to discover, investigate and understand complicated health insurance issues. To improve the experience and healthcare journey of our members, as a UX Writer, you will collaborate with Designer, Researchers, Product Managers, Developers and business leaders in an interdisciplinary environment.


  • Work across multiple products and/or projects, scoping, setting strategy, planning, and managing work for teams on large-scale projects.
  • Plan and write content for apps, websites and other digital tools to help users navigate products and understand the complexities of health insurance.
  • Partner in the design process and own the overall language experience.
  • Consider user needs, requirements, tech constraints, legal requirements, business goals, usability, accessibility, and content goals.
  • Lead content reviews and feedback sessions.
  • Articulate how content fits into the design process, and understand how it facilitates an iterative approach to user experience, product quality, and/or experience strategy
  • Understand business stakeholders’ goals and objectives and how they relate to and impact product decisions. Manage stakeholders’ expectations across stages of the project.
  • Translate user research and analytics to insights that inform content strategy.
  • Apply consumer insights and design principles to digital and service experiences.
  • Participate in innovation sprints and ideation activities to explore new product and service ideas.



  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university (or comparable degree and/or experience). Master's degree preferred.
  • Five years of experience in research, product design, service design, experience strategy, product development or related role.
  • Expertise using research and/or design tools (i.e. UserZoom, dscout, Miro, Sketch, Figma, Axure, InDesign, or other equivalent tools).
  • Experience in the health care or insurance industries a plus.
  • Excellent visual, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with scrum/agile software development approach preferred.
  • Experience applying analytics to triangulate areas for product improvement, and working with teams to identify and implement new product metrics preferred.
  • Significant experience framing project goals and timelines in the face of uncertainty, including a demonstrated comfort level working with unfamiliar domains, delicate topics, and complex problems.
