UPMC complies with all governmental requirements related to local, state, and federal COVID-19 vaccination for employment. OB Sonographer/OB Sonographer Adv

We are offering a $6,000 sign-on bonus for a 2-year work commitment!

UPMC Magee Womens Hospital is hiring an OB Sonographer to join their team! This position will be primarily daylight, but can be varied with evening, night, weekend, and holiday hours.  There will be an occasional off-shift of 4pm-12am and a rare off-shift of 11pm-7am and some call responsibilities. This position will have flexible scheduling. Candidates and managers will be able to discuss schedules that work best for them and the team.

This department may also have float availability for locations close to the candidate's home after orientation. They also have a vast career ladder to fit your career goals!

OB Sonographer starting rate: $28.26

OB Sonographer Adv. starting rate: $30.24

Performs imaging procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision. Competently performs a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for diagnostic purposes.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • May be responsible for High Level Disinfection of devices, supplies and/or equipment
  • Covers call and off-shifts on a rotational basis.
  • Assures all exams within his/her area of responsibility are properly coded and tracked through RIS system; assures all exams are properly networked to STENTOR for archiving and interpretation.
  • Ensures charges are adequately entered for the exams performed.
  • Assists with training of staff, student sonographers, physicians, fellows, residents, and job shadows
  • Provides exceptional patient experience to facilitate bonding between patients and guests during lengthy exam times.
  • Possesses ability to communicate unfavorable outcomes to patients in caring, respectful, and professional manner.
  • Abnormal diagnosis occurs with more frequency in high risk patient setting.
  • Generates diagnostic preliminary reports sent to ordering physicians prior to final report release by interpreting physician.
  • Obtains appropriate image documentation of cross-sectional anatomy in all body planes demonstrating anatomy, anatomical relationships and ultrasonic characteristics of normal and abnormal tissues for fetal diagnosis without reliance on physician back-scanning assistance
  • Identify vast number of fetal anomalies and maternal-fetal conditions with academic and technical skills to obtain images needed for diagnosis in high risk patients.
  • Demonstrate recognition of cross-sectional anatomy of the female reproductive system and fetal structures throughout various stages of pregnancy and correlates abnormal findings with underlying physiologic processes.
  • Assists physicians with invasive procedures as necessary and adheres strictly to the universal protocol standards.
  • Utilizes appropriate ultrasound instrumentation for procedures and demonstrates knowledge of equipment operations, applications and scanning techniques resulting in optimized image data/documentation.
  • Completes procedures according to protocol.
  • Performs a variety of technical ultrasound procedures, correlating appropriate patient history, laboratory data, and physical findings, for the purpose of assisting in a patient's medical diagnosis under the direct supervision of a physician or registered ultrasound technologist.

 

Qualifications

OB Sonographer:

  • Completion of formal training in an Ultrasound program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) required.
  • Must have completed Physics portion of registry.
  • Must obtain RDMS in OB/Gyn Ultrasound within 12 months of hire date.

OB Sonographer Adv: 

  • Completion of formal training in an Ultrasound program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) required, or RDMS registered.
  • 2 years of ultrasound experience preferred, 1 year must be as a full time status, at a UPMC facility scanning OB Ultrasound. 
  • Performance review consistent with minimum of strong/ Solid performance on last performance review.
  • RDMS OB/Gyn registry required.


Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • RDMS Registered or registry eligible required.
  • Must have completed Physics portion of registry.
  • Must obtain RDMS in OB/Gyn Ultrasound within 12 months of hire date.
  • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS)
  • Act 34

Applicants will be placed in the appropriate job title and salary from the career ladder based on their individual experience and education.
