Description


Provides physical therapy evaluation and treatment using advanced clinical skills in a specialty area for children and adolescents referred to CHP or facilities contracted with CHP. Physical therapists collaborate with the family and medical team to optimize the child's functional mobility and gross motor skills. Serves as a clinical resource for other staff members.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs physical therapy assessment and re-assessment using objective tests and measures or standardized assessments to identify the child's functional abilities and impairments impeding their function. Establishes a plan of care with long-term and short-term goals to remediate the impairments and functional limitations identified during the evaluation process.
  • Develops and implements an appropriate treatment intervention plan which reflects advanced clinical knowledge, evaluation findings and is updated and modified based on the patient's response and progress.
  • Maintains written/electronic documentation for all clinical services rendered including documentation of the initial assessment, re-assessment, cancellations, follow-up visits, and discharge summary which meets or exceeds the standard established for the facility by the organization. Completes authorization and re-authorization required by third party payers.
  • Integrate family centered care through the education of caregivers in appropriate activities for carryover of goals and intervention in the home and community settings.
  • Communicates significant changes in the child's status to the physician. Assists schedulers and/or coordinators with adjusting schedules as needed to meet patient/family needs.
  • Develops and maintains effective communication with peers and leadership within the dept, health care team members within CHP and outside referring physicians and school personnel. In the absence of coordinators or director, will act as communication link for department and other hospital personnel.
  • Recommends, orders, and/or fabricates necessary splints, adaptive devices and durable medical equipment in consultation with the patient, family and interdisciplinary team. Serves as a clinical resource to assist with training and education of new staff regarding splinting, serial casting and/or durable medical equipment.
  • Assists coordinator and director with orientation of new employees and serves as clinical resource for ongoing training of staff physical therapists.
  • Pursues professional growth and development through participation in departmental in-services, literature discussions, continuing education and the quest of knowledge and research relevant to areas of practice and the mission and vision of CHP and the department. Presents department in-services, facility education programs and/or at professional organization programs.
  • Serves as a clinical instructor for physical therapy students. May guest lecture or teach portions of a course in local or online physical therapy academic programs.
  • Participate in and lead departmental projects (lectures to Hospital staff, community education, research, and strategic plan). Serves on department, facility or professional organization committees.

 

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited program approved by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA).
  • Minimum of 3 years pediatric clinical experience required.
  • Demonstrated clinical expertise in a specialty area preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and communication skills Compliance with regulations of accrediting bodies, including but not limited to: *Current American Heart Association CPR Health Care Provider Certification


Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Physical Therapist (PT)
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
