Description

UPMC Passavant is looking to hire a HVAC Engineer, Lead. The Lead is responsible for the daily supervision of all employees within the shop. This position is primarily responsible for supervising the operating, troubleshooting, record maintenance, and monitoring of the hospital’s HVAC system and refrigeration equipment. This position will assist the Lead Engineer with other building systems and/ or tasks covered by the shop. Responsible for performing the duties of the Lead Engineer in his/her absence.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a working knowledge of appropriate codes and regulations.
  • Coordinate project work with Facilities Development contractors and end users to ensure completion of assignments in a timely manner with minimal interruption to operations.
  • Work in close communication with department management, Infection Control, and EH&S to assure that the facility needs are met, and efficient operation of the facility is not compromised.
  • Address and provide guidance to staff through technical issues that provide for safety and without compromise for facilities operations and patient care.
  • Inspect work site for cleanliness and safety.
  • Estimate the approximate cost of new installation into labor and material.
  • Responsible for obtaining quotes from vendors for material and/or services.
  • Responsible for medical gas inventory and deliveries.
  • Responsible for investigating all equipment and operational problems on off-shifts, weekends, and holidays.
  • Responsible for 24/7 coverage for the entire hospital
  • Investigate, schedule, and plan service outages (including emergencies) when necessary for repair, alteration or additions to systems while not compromising safety or operation of facility operations.
  • Operates, maintain, test, troubleshoots, and repairs the pneumatic tube transport system.
  • Operates, maintain, test, troubleshoots, and repairs medical air and medical vacuum systems.
  • Operates, maintain, test, troubleshoots, and repairs refrigeration equipment, including ice machines and water coolers.
  • Operates, maintain, test, troubleshoots, and repairs HVAC equipment to maintain proper environmental conditions.
  • Operates, maintain, test, troubleshoots, and repairs the building management (DDC) system.
  • Responsible for setting-up appropriate level of infection control containment (ICRA) based on risk level and maintaining the integrity of that containment.
  • Perform all work following infection control procedures; maintain clean and safe work areas.
  • Assure all staff are properly trained in job skills and safety procedures along with details of equipment and maintenance operation.
  • Work with manager to ensure adequate staffing levels
  • Review, schedule and distribute all shop work orders daily.

 

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required. Trade school background preferred.
  • Any combination of two (2) years trade school background or three (3) years of experience working as a stationary engineer or an HVAC mechanic is required.
  • Building management system (DDC) knowledge preferred.
  • Previous healthcare experience preferred.

    Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
    City of Pittsburgh Stationary Engineer License (NIULPE) is preferred. EPA Universal Refrigerant License is preferred. Must possess a valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License.
