Team Lead, Physician Account Executive - Western PA


UPMC Health Plan is hiring a full-time Team Lead, Physician Account Executive to support the National Network Management Department. This role is a hybrid structure working from home and the office at the US Steel Tower in downtown Pittsburgh and will involve travel throughout Western PA. This position will support our LTSS/HCBS Provider Network Management.

Under the general direction of the Manager, this Team Lead position manages relationships with key, strategic, high volume physician practices and leadership client within the UPMC Health Plan service area to: define and develop overall project objectives, scope and work plan and reviews and confirms with the client, recognize and anticipate scope and other project issues and communicates to client and project team as well as takes appropriate measures; anticipates key business issues, leverages solutions from dependent and related projects and generates new perspectives, frameworks or innovations that enable problem resolution; systematically assesses and then conveys pros and cons of alternative solutions to complex, sophisticated, and sensitive issues and achieves consensus on direction/ approach; anticipates and defines barriers to change with internal and external clients; devises plans to address change barriers and ensure acceptance of the change process; dynamically leads presentations/work sessions to positively influence decisions and perceptions; manages ambiguous situations with minimal direction; and builds, directs and maintains motivated and diverse teams.Supervision of physician account executive(s) and Network Managers may be required. These services will be provided in compliance with state and federal regulations, NCQA standards, and the mission, policies and procedures of the Health Plan and the Provider Network department. Individual should demonstrate professionalism and commitment to meet UPMC Health Plan goals and objectives.



  • Along with Manager assign and track day to day tasks, projects and schedules.
  • Participate in interviewing, hiring and training of team members when requested.
  • Distribute provider reports, lead development and implementation of action plans.
  • Maintain reports to assist in attainment of standards, identify root cause of potential or existing problems.
  • Make sure management is aware of issues and problems within the team, and deal with them with them appropriately.
  • Meet with targeted physician practices to assess practice patterns and make recommendation to improve provider performance.
  • Ensure the team is collaborating closely with our providers and that providers fully understand Health Plan initiatives
  • Represent Network Department at internal meeting when necessary.
  • Continually examine team performance, provide feedback, make recommendations and implement action plans to meet designated standards.
  • Along with manager ensure team is aware of highest priority work.
  • Assist with the development and training of new team members.
  • Lead the management of relationships with key high volume accounts within the UPMC Health Plan physician network.
  • Monitor and refine workflow to facilitate communication and teamwork between departments.
  • Assume supervisory responsibility as necessary.
  • Along with manager accompany team members to offsite meetings and ensure the team is organized and acting as one unit.



  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Health Care, Finance, Management, or related field; Master's degree preferred (extensive related experience will be considered).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in managed care or physician office setting required.
  • Supervisory or related experience preferred.
  • Experience in health care insurance, MCO, or health care industry preferred.
  • Excellent computer skills required, including Word, Excel, Power point, Access and other pertinent software packages.
  • Strong management, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills (oral and written) are required.
  • This position requires effective planning and organizational skills.
  • This person must have the ability to perform planning for large initiatives/ projects, managing all tasks required to provide services to meet client and business needs within budget and targeted deadlines.
