Across UPMC, our guiding principle is to always prioritize the safety of our employees, patients, and members. UPMC believes that vaccination is important, helps protect all, and advocates that everyone who can be vaccinated should be vaccinated.

UPMC complies with all governmental requirements related to local, state, and federal COVID-19 vaccination for employment. The Jan. 13 Supreme Court of the United States decision that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services federal COVID-19 vaccine mandate will move forward requires UPMC to ensure employees either get vaccinated or receive a requested medical or religious exemption.

The SWAT Certified Nursing Assistant provides routine resident care and supports services in accordance with established policies and procedures, and as may be directed by the nurse or physician to assure that the highest degree of quality resident care can be provided at all times. The SWAT Certified Nursing Assistant will be utilized to fill shifts in all skilled nursing facilities that have units of high need. SWAT Certified Nursing Assistants must be willing to work at all UPMC skilled nursing facilities and accept regular rotational assignments as determined by a SWAT team supervisor. The SWAT Certified Nursing Assistant will not be required to be on call, otherwise chosen by the participant and approved by the Unit Director and SWAT team supervisor. Off-shift coverage may be required in facilities that have an extended need for shift coverage. 

Location: the potential to rotate through all UPMC Pgh Sr. Comm buildings – potential to rotate to Greensburg – Weatherwood Manor and north Jameson Care Center, Sugar Creek Station, Avalon Springs/Avalon Place. PGH is Asbury, Seneca Place Canterbury Cranberry Heritage Place.

Shift Options: 

  • 3, 12-hour shifts per week.
  • Days and nights rotating or evening/nights or steady nights are available – 2-24 hours
  • Every 6 weeks would get assigned to where they would go. 

Weekend requirements: at least 3-weekend shifts within a 6-week schedule 

The System-wide Nursing Resource CNA-Inpatient is a member of flexible pool of certified nursing assistants that works per-diem and long term assignments throughout UPMC's inpatient facilities. The System-wide Nursing Resource CNA provides routine patient care and support services in accordance with established policies and procedures, and as may be directed by the nurse or physician, to assure that the highest degree of quality patient care is maintained at all times.

Responsibilities:

 

  • Maintain an environment conducive to patient safety and recovery including, but not limited to, completing safety checks, keeping the department and patient rooms clean and organized, cleaning department specific equipment, changing bed linens, emptying linen hampers, keeping hallways clear of equipment and returning equipment. Comply with safety policies and procedures including standard precautions and understand policies and procedures for blood borne pathogen exposure.
  • Acquire and distribute supplies and equipment to facilitate patient care delivery including, but not limited to, performing messenger functions, ordering, charging/crediting supplies, setting up patient care equipment within the scope of the nursing assistant position and stocking patient rooms and unit supply areas.
  • Provide direct patient care as directed by the RN including all activities of daily living such as bathing, feeding, transporting, toileting and ambulating patients. May apply, monitor and remove patient restraints as per physician or hospital protocol. Provide diversion activities to reduce or prevent use of restraints. Deliver patient nourishments, fill water pitchers and distribute patient mail. Perform routine tests such as blood glucose monitoring, patient weights, vital signs and l&Os. Provide feedback to the RN regarding patient care and report changes in patient status. Respond within the scope of the nursing assistant role to emergent situations.

 

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of body mechanics and transfer techniques.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.SWAT Certified Nursing Assistants must agree to be available to work 72 hours in a bi-weekly pay period and will follow the scheduling requirements of the skilled nursing facility assigned.
  • Minimum of 1 year of current CNA experience that demonstrates advanced knowledge in the skilled nursing setting.


Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • CPR is required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) REQUIRED
  • Act 34
  • OAPSA
