Purpose:

UPMC Children’s Hospital Foundation is embarking on its first comprehensive campaign, “This Moment”. With a focus on raising philanthropic dollars to support the people and programs of UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, the Foundation is looking for a new team member to join the Development team.

The Lead Annual Giving Officer position is a front-line fundraising role focused primarily on individuals that make contributions at the $1,000 to $10,000 level.  This position will be responsible for building and maintaining a portfolio (approximately 300-400 potential donors).

Reporting to Director, Development within the Development team at UPMC Children’s Hospital Foundation, the Lead Annual Giving Officer will develop cultivation and solicitation strategies with the goal of soliciting prospects for commitments at the $1,000 level and above with a particular focus on retention and upgrading donors to major and planned giving opportunities.

On an annual basis, this position will raise approximately $500,000, while also working with planned giving donors to secure intentions. This position will work strategically to coordinate prospect and donor contacts as appropriate with the Foundation President, Vice President of Development, Director, Development, and other senior staff, volunteers and Hospital leadership and senior medical, nursing and research faculty.


Responsibilities

 

  • In collaboration with the Director, Development, establish annual and long-term goals and metrics for programs and initiatives with an emphasis on donor acquisition, donor retention, and revenue growth, with a particular focus on individuals giving between $1,000-$10,000.
  • Demonstrate leadership in working across departments with other colleagues to cultivate creativity and problem-solving, achieve quality and efficiency and promote teamwork in support of departmental and Foundation goals.
  • Maintain accurate and consistent donor records in keeping with established and future policies and procedures.
  • Manage a portfolio of annual giving prospects by soliciting, cultivating, and stewarding mid-level donors through targeted appeals and campaigns, individual face-to-face meetings/contacts, and electronic/written appeals
  • Ensure delivery of excellence in customer service, impeccably managing donor communications and expectations, and proper recording, tracking and reporting of gifts from donors as it relates to annual giving
  • Maintain a system of gift analysis and reporting in order to track success, measure giving results and provide periodic summaries to annual giving department
  • Represent the UPMC Children’s Hospital Foundation in building relationships with individuals and families that will generate significant philanthropic support for strategic initiatives to advance the Hospital's mission
  • Develop strong working relationships of trust and confidence with clinical and research faculty.
  • Log all relationship information in the Raisers Edge database in compliance with the Hospital's HIPPA policies.
  • Assure the prompt gift acceptance, deposit, acknowledgement and recognition of gifts.
  • Demonstrate through behavior hospital's core values of integrity, care, balance, excellence, stewardship, and teamwork.
  • Travel on as an as needed basis for personal solicitation, qualification, and stewardship. Engage and steward donors through personal face to face visits. Some evening phone calling necessary.

Qualifications

Requiremetns:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Communications or related area and 3-5 years experience required.
  • Experience in non-profit organizations preferred.
  • Direct experience in individual giving preferred.
  • Proven success in program management
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills required
  • Self-directed, task oriented, independent organizational ability and timeliness in meeting deadlines and target objectives
  • Clear and concise understanding of the philanthropic continuum and what it takes to move donor/prospects successfully through the pipeline
  • Ability to analyze data to identify potential mid-level, major and planned gift prospects
  • Proficiency in Blackbaud?s Raiser?s Edge
